How do I show unique ID in report?

Asked by kiranshah3000 on February 12, 2011 at 03:24 AM

I have enabled the option in the submissions and can see it in the window there but when I export to excel it doesn't show up.

In your form builder, select the form in which you wish to include a unique ID in the records and click Edit. From the Power Tools menu on the left, drag the hidden box field into your form (or just click it) and change its label to Unique ID. If it wasn't inserted into the first position above all of the other fields, move it there. (Since the ID is usually the first item of a record that would be the correct position for this field.) In the toolbar above the form, click Email Alerts. Click Notification. Under the Answer heading, click to the right of {uniqueId} and use the backspace key to remove that tag. In the floating menu on the right, you will notice that there are two (2) items named Unique ID. The one above the separating line inserts the tag which you would have just removed. Click the one below the line. You should now see {id} where {uniqueId} previously occupied. Click Finish. Save your change if it hasn't already been autosaved.

That's it. You will now see the unique ID for each record in that form.

Please Note: From my tests, just typing "{id}" will not work. You have to use the floating menu to insert it. I'm clueless as to why that is.

I keep doing that: Misunderstanding simple questions! (The ID doesn't export to Excel for me either.) The thing is, I'm sure my solution above worked the first time I tried it. Now, for the life of me, I can't duplicate the results!

AARGH! Back to the drawing board...

No problem thanks for your help abajan. Maybe someone else has experience not being able to export the submission ids and can help out...

The funny thing with my method is that in the emailed notification, the unique ID is showing up as the value for the Unique ID field just fine. However, when I look at that form's records, that field is blank! Why? Weirdness.

Of course, if you really think about it, it should be blank because the text box (whether hidden or not) contains nothing. Those tags {id}, {fullName1} and so on are variables and they will reflect whatever values are in the fields. Typing {id} in the field won't work either. I've tried that before and it only returns a literal string of {id} intstead of the actual ID.
