Data Analysis Issue: configurable list responses consolidated under one cell

    Dear Team

We have created a long survey and used configurable list and matrix dymanique in many of our questions. However, we started getting responses back and looking to exporting this information into excel sheet. We are currently facing issues with analyzing this data, especially with questions where we used the two widgets mentioned above, as their corresponding answers appear in once single cell instead of multiple cells. (see the photo of the excel sheet). While we imagined that each answer would automatically be demonstrated in each column. For example, "No, of hotel rooms" would be in its own column and the answer for this questions would be a row below. Similarly, No if total restaurants would be its own column and the and answers would be shown under it for each user.

is there a way to fix this as this is only a simple example of more complicated questions we have and it is going to be an issue with large amount of respondents, we would not be able to manually fix each item

    Hi Mona,

Thanks for reaching out to Jotform Support. I am sorry you are having an issue with this. Unfortunetly, it is not possible to separate the data from the Configurable List into separate columns or rows in the submission tables. You will need to separate the data from the downloaded Excel File manually. You can do this by splitting the cell. This guide will show you how:

While the feature you’re looking for isn’t currently available, rest assured we’re always working to add new services and features to Jotform. I've gone ahead and escalated your request to our Developers. When or if it's implemented depends on their workload, how viable it is, and how many other users request it. If there are any updates, we’ll circle back to this thread and let you know.

Reach out to us if you need any more help.

Thank you for reaching out to us! 🙋‍♀️ Yes, there is a way to fix the consolidation of answers in a single cell when exporting data from Jotform to Excel. Here are a few possible solutions:

    1. Use Conditional Formatting in Excel: After exporting the data to Excel, you can use Conditional Formatting to split the answers into separate columns based on the value in each cell. This will allow you to create a separate column for each option in your configurable list.

    2. Use a pivot table: A pivot table can help you consolidate the data from your configurable list into separate columns. You can create a pivot table in Excel by selecting the data, go to the "Analysis" tab, and click on "PivotTable". Then, you can drag and drop the fields to create the desired columns.

    3. Use a formula to split the answer: You can use a formula in Excel to split the answer into separate columns based on the value in each cell. For example, you can use the formula =A1&", "&B1&", "&C1&" to split the answer into three columns.

    4. Use an add-in: There are several third-party add-ins available that can help you split the data from your configurable list into separate columns when exporting to Excel. Some popular options include Jotform Export for Excel, Excel Exporter for Jotform, and Jotform to Excel.

    5. Modify the Jotform survey: If you find that the consolidation of answers is a recurring issue, you may want to consider modifying your Jotform survey to use a different type of question that allows for separate answers per column. For example, you can use a matrix question to collect the answers in a more structured format.

We hope these suggestions help you resolve the issue! If you have any further questions, feel free to Ask us! 😊
