Autosaving an application

I was working with a support person last week - I believe his name was Chad - to set up a workaround for autosaving an application. We did this by following

We literally worked on it for 2.5 hrs - Thought it worked. Now, however, when users fill out their application, when they fill out the first form (name, email) - the session URL that gets sent to them, when they click on it, opens up our application but NONE of their content they put in there gets filled out.

Can you explain/have someone get on chat to help me asap?

    Hi there,

Unfortunately, at this point chat support is only available during times when we have enough staff avaialble. That tends to be during the evening on weekdays.

You may choose to be on stand by untill chat support is available, or you can also share with Us the URL of the form in question, the description of the issue and a description of what you would like the form to do.

    We'll await for your response!

The url of the live form is:

You'll notice the first form is the email form instructed in that help link I posted in my first post of this thread.

The problem is that once the user submits their application (by using the MAIN form), the session URL that was sent to them via the FIRST form (name, email) of our application does NOT record the content they put in the main form - which is a problem because the whole point of us implementing this workaround was to ensure that applicants would have autosaved work.

I just tested your form and it seems to be working fine. I was able to see the session URL on the first form's thank you page. I've inputted some data on the second form and it got saved. Check my session form here:

Do let us know if you have further questions. Thanks!

    Hey there -

That's so weird - I've had two users not get their data saved in the second form. Did I build the session URL incorrectly somehow?

Lend me your thoughts, I'd love to hear any theory so we can figure it out, seeing since it worked for you (and me as well)

First of all, your continue later links are good. I was not able to reproduces any issues with your form.

    My test submission:

Please note that the data is being saved saved when the Next & Back buttons are used.

If you have some steps to reproduce the problem, please let us know. Thank you!

Hey there - just tested it again myself. I don't have my data recorded.

    My use case:

    > Went to

    > Filled out the first form: Name, Email.

    > Received email from JotForm including session URL (as a result of submitted the first form)

    > Proceeded to fill out my application

    > Clicked submit

    > Received "Thank You - Submission was received" dialogue.

    > Went back to email containing session URL - clicked it - all fields were empty

I hope this helps explain the problem; let me know if you have further theories...not sure why this works for you guys and it's not for me.

I should add - users are continuing filling out their application WITHIN the iFrame on When I did my test just now, I filled out the application WITHIN the iFrame of our website.  Is that the issue?

If so, What do I do? I'd like users to be able to fill out the application within our website with the autosave feature functioning I've built.

We are sorry for possible misunderstanding.

In this case you will need to use the Edit Submission Link, it can be easily added to the Autoresponder and the Custom Thank You Page.

The Save & Continue Later session based feature is saving the form when you click on the Next/Back button, while the Edit Link is working for completely submitted forms.

Save & Continue Later feature will not let you to edit submitted data.

If this is not clear, please let me know. Thank you for cooperation.

Can you walk me through exactly what I do here, as well as which form this applies to? ( I have a first form and a main form)

I would suggest you read these 2 articles for better understanding of the features.

    1. How-to-Let-Users-Update-Their-Form-Submissions-on-a-Later-Date

    2. How-to-Save-Forms-to-Continue-Later

For #1 you can simply insert the {edit_link} from the right panel when in the notification email composition process. You will use #1 if you wanted your form responders to be able edit the form later even after submission of the form.

Responder cannot edit the form after submission using the #2 method.

Hope this help. Please inform us if you require further assistance about this.

We apologize for the miscues on the chat window.

But you can also just provide to us the latest details of your form requirement here.

Have you decided which method to use base on the 2 I describe previously?

    1. How-to-Let-Users-Update-Their-Form-Submissions-on-a-Later-Date

    2. How-to-Save-Forms-to-Continue-Later

Base on your latest response, you mentioned 2 forms... so I am assuming you wanted to do #2 ?

As mentioned, the difference with #2 is you cannot edit the form when submission is done. You can only go back to it at later time (like a saved form) and edit when it is not yet submitted.

While #1, you can only edit the form after it was already submitted . You cannot saved the form and continue later using #1.
