Using the "Free HTML" module, I loaded a gif PaPay button and set the link to our PayPal donations page. This looks great but when the PayPal button is clicked the default Jotform "thank you" screen displays and doesn't connect to our PayPal donation site. How can we do this and make it work?

The idea of the paypal payment tool in JotForm has to have the fields filled up. This is your direct payment processing module going to paypal.
The amount for the donation is needed so to proceed to paypal for payment.
If you wish to have a custom link and not use the JotForm payment tools, you may freely do so. You can use the Thank you page as a redirection page going to your paypal donation page.
Hope this helps
