How can I stop blank form fields from appearing in emails

    I have a form set-up which is embedded in my website

    The form is working well however I've spent the last few hours figthing with various settings to try and eliminate the blank fields from the notification email.  In short I can't do it. 

    I have tried the option in the submission webview to 'Auto Hide Empty Fields' but it dosent fully work for me.

    I have a number of hidden matrix fields which are only shown depending on the selected values from a number of dropdown boxes.  I have used conditions to enable this behaviour.

    For instance, near the top of the form in the section - Fascia & Accessories, I have a dropdown box labelled 'Fascia Colour Required' which is populated with a list of colour options that we provide.  For each colour option, there is a corresponding matrix which is only shown when selected in the dropdown.

    At present all of these hidden matrix fields are included in the notification email, which adds a considerable amount of necessary data to the email.

    I would be grateful, if someone could take a quick look at my form and see if I have overlooked a setting when configuring it.

    After some further work on a simple new test form, it seems this issue is only happening where the matrix input type is configured as text box.

    Is this a deliberate, or a bug, or is there a workaround?

    Hi Mark,

    Unfortunately, that's how the notifications works. There's no way that you can eliminate fields that are left unanswered or that is hidden by using the conditional logic tool. Actually, this is NOT a bug.

    Thanks Welvin,It DOES work when the matrix field is set to radio input. The problem only appears when the input type is set to text box. Perhaps I haven't explained the issue properly.Mark

    Hello Mark. Looks like you are correct.  Let me forward this as a feature request.  They can also probably explain why this kind of option happens.

    I'm interested in how to do this also. I'm working with a form that I use for about 3 months every year. As best I tell, last year the radio inputs that were left blank did not appear in the notification email. I copied over the form, made the updates for this year, but now it appears as if the blank radio inputs (from conditionally hidden fields) are not being hidden in the new notification email.

    Try recreating your form notification and check if that helps. Just delete your existing notification and create a new one. If this doesn't help then I'm afraid there's some changes which affects the previous functionality of email. However, there's a workaround for this, though it uses form source code and extra scripts. Check this guide on this post.

    We have a new feature in jotform. This is the "Hide Empty Fields on Emails" from advance tab under Preferences. Have you tried these already? Please confirm if these works in your side.

    Note: if the email alert has been edited, it becomes now 'dirty' if how we call it. Which means the said feature will not be work anymore, unless you recreate the email alert.

    Hi Kenneth I have the same problem and was looking in the forum for this issue. Iwent out to preferences and followed your instructions on hide empty fields and that didn't work


    below is what it looks like in email notification. The reason it's important

    for me is my client wants this to be printed on a form
