Use Substring widget with Fullname field

Hi,

I want to extract the first 3 letters of a person's first name and the first 3 letters of a person's last name from a Full Name element.

The Substring widget works great with Short Text Elements but doesn't seem to handle multi-label elements like Full Name.

I thought I could insert the first name and/or the last name into separate text fields, taken from the Full Name element, but don't see how I can do that conditionally using calculate or copy.

I'm aware that I can switch from one Full Name element to two text elements (i.e. one for first name and one for last name) for each name captured on the form, but I'm hoping I'm overlooking a different solution that won't require me to re-work a few things, including pre-populated URLs.

I have understood your requirement but there is no built in feature to split the full name field and display in textbox field but can use the fullname tag to split the first and last name separately in text field.

Let me test this and get back to you if I am able to find a workaround to populate two textbox with first and last name. I will get back to you on this soon.

Ultimately, I don't need to split into two textboxes if the widget would support extracting from the Full Name field. I was just trying workarounds.

I'm not sure why the widget won't extract from Full Name-style fields, given that it has the field ID for the specific part of the Element wanting extraction from. Can we check with the widget team about that?

My colleague was referring to tags that can get just the first or last email of the Full Name {fullName} field.

For the first name - {fullName:first} 

For the last name - {fullName:last} 

However, this tags are usually used for the Email alerts. 

I made a few tests but I am unable to find a way how can we achieve your request, without using to separate Short Text Entry fields. Hopefully, my colleague will find a solution. 

If my colleague is unable to find a solution we can report this issue to our developers.

I tried it on my end, but I'm not able to get the Full Name field ID's to work with substring widget. I'll ask my colleague if he found a workaround and we'll let you know here. Thanks.

Thank you for contacting us again. I will submit a feature request to our developers regarding an option to substring characters from multi-label elements like Full Name field. 

At the moment, I do not see a solution to get 3 letters of a person's first name and the first 3 letters of a person's last name without using separate fields.
