Asked by markashton on February 21, 2013 at 03:46 PM

    Hi,

Two tests re. the E-Signature function fails to deliver the signature in a notification email.

This is not a html in an email problem ... I am looking at a html enabled email and the Signature is just absent.

However, the signature is present in the submissions area of Jotform

    Please try it your end

    Thanks, Mark

Read this thread to understand why I started testing this ... see his reply .. to my post ...

    Then read these ...

What happened to the "We'll get back to you by tomorrow platitude on the 21st ??

This function shouldn't have been released ... it hasn't been tested properly

    Thanks.

    Liyam,

On what basis did you notice that "this issue has already been resolved"?

It has never been resolved ... there are just a catalogue of inaccurate statements from support that confuse the whole issue.

Here's what has actually happened ...

Jotform releases an e-signature function, to great fanfare, on the basis of myself putting forward the case in the first place as I am using it on Formstack, a competitior's website.

The thanks one gets for a valuable recommendation of this is rewarded by Jotform in the following manner ...

    1) Aytekin releases a blog post fanfaring the e-signature function coming to market on Jotform.

    2) I, in 5 minutes of testing, find out the following facts ....

    a) It cannot be embedded, iframed or used via the source code
    b) The signature cannot be delivered by notification or autoresponder email
    c)  The signature cannot be accessed in reports like other files of a similar nature

Now, I ask you, what kind of company releases software that is so woefully tested??

    3) On raising these points, I get advised that I'll be notfied the next day ... by Aytekin... NOT

The points never get addressed ... nearly a month later you have a sub-standard function that has wasted hours of my time and have ... incredibly prioritised other things over and above this new release....

This was top priority at one point ... but only getting it released it seems ... nothing to do with quality.

what is more important over the last three weeks than this ??

I have advised on several occasions to take it off jotform as it is sub-standard and doesn't work in any way that is of value ... this is ignored and I am sure that many people have wasted their time on it too.

Shame on jotform for their tardiness.

As you can see I am irked.

Now tell me Liyam ... are you advising me to go and see if this works my end? What has changed since Welvin inaccurately advised me that it had been fixed. Are you doing the same?

    I won't bother testing it ... I know it doesn't work.

Hope you can get kick some ass and get this thing working like it should.

If it has been fixed ... I'm all ears

    Regards Mark

Note the thread in this post ...

    http://www.jotform.com/answers/188981-e-Signature-Field-Show-as-images-in-Reports?

if you can't be bothered .... try making one change to the notfication email ... like adding Hi at the top ... that'll make the entire thing fail

Am I the only one who knows what's going on with this **** function. I'm not even part of Jotform

    Respectfully Liyam...

TAKE OFF THE E-SIGNATURE FIELD ... IT DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. IT IS UNFAIR ON YOUR USERS TO HAVE SUB-STANDARD FUNCTIONS THAT WASTE THEIR TIME. SOMEONE WILL TRY IT OUT ... GET EXCITED ... AND REALISE THEY CAN'T USE IT.

    Many thanks

    Hi there,

Here is a video of my tests with the e-mail being sent to the e-mails:

I have then changed the notification to add some extra text.  And this are the results I had:

    http://screencast.com/t/4p3a2IECJ

I have forwarded this issue to our dev team for further investigation.

They will update this thread as soon as there are any news on the issue.

As per your request to remove this feature, your opinion has been noted.

    Eduardo,

Why does the dev team need notification of this?

Aytekin responded to my orginal thread here in the first place ... wasn't it entirely clear at the outset what the problem was?

I thought they'd all be completely aware of it ... what with me wrapping on about it every couple of days!

If you can find out whether it's going to be fixed that would be a great help ... if not I'll go back to Formstack who had a very good solution in place ... one that I ditched for this massive waste of time ;-!

    Thanks Mark

You are correct. All involve on this thread including the assigned dev were always notified all the time.

The bug ticket is currently still open but was already assigned to a developer since the initial response by Mr. Aytekin.

This thread will be updated by support when new update is available.

Thank you for the patience and understanding.

    Hi,

Now the genius developers have nailed the signatures in reports ... surely it is only a small matter of time to get the signature delivered in notification/autoresponder emails.

Currently, it is possible wihen you don't alter the default email in any way. One edit prevents the signature coming through.

Now you guys are on a roll with this ... is it imminent this fix?

    Hi,

    I have tested this.

It doesn't work. Have you tested it properly?

A submission does provide a link to a png file but this is no good. Clients don't want to see a link ... have to click it ... get a download in the browser....

What needs to happen ... is what happens in the screenshot that Liyam shows above in his post of March 13 ... for the email to display the signature.

@mdikici ... You state above that "the email issues fixed" .... something led you to believe this to be the case ... did you test this with a notification email and successfully receive an email with the signature in it? If not ... why post it is fixed?

    Thanks Mark

As you can see this post is not about links to signature png, it is about delivery. I posted it because it is FIXED and i tested it very carefully.

Before this fix even those links to signature png files were absent.

    @mdiikici

I've tested this thoroughly and don't see any change from my initial post one month ago - see above at top ... first post

    You state

As you can see this post is not about links to signature png, it is about delivery. I posted it because it is FIXED and i tested it very carefully.

    1) I know what the post is about .. I posted it.
    2) It is not FIXED - html emails do not deliver the signature image... if they have been modified from default in any way. PERIOD
    3) You tested it very carefully?? Answer me this ... Did you succesfully test and receive the signature in a notification email THAT WAS NOT THE DEFAULT NOTIFICATION ... please tell me you weren't testing it on the default email ... that's what half this thread is about

Before this fix even those links to signature png files were absent.

Yeah ... so what ... if a jotform image can be seen in the notification email ... the signature can be seen in the default email ... whose going to settle for a png link at this stage ... the whole post is about getting the signature delivered in an email - not its link?

I'm gonna have to say it again .. it doesn't work ... I've tested it and put results here:

    http://www.jotform.com/answers/194246-When-people-use-the-new-signature-feature-the-email-that-comes-through-has-just-a-broken-link-image-instead-of-the-signature-

Hey sorry to be a hard task master ... I've just read the above and it sounds like I'm the MD of Jotform with a load of VCs at my throat ;-)

I'm just very keen to get something going with the e-signature function ... it depends on the successful delivery via email ... and so everytime I read its fixed my hope is up there .... big deflation when I find out its not.

Please try and get the fix done. Be grateful. keep up the good work

Just a wall of silence when the going gets tough then?

Any update on this function released 33 days ago ... that still doesn't deliver the critical function by email ...

UNLESS ... and lets not get confused here ... one uses the default email without adding a single period to it.

Thanks ... please get this nailed .... Steve Jobs wouldn't be happy would he?

Hello! Here's a fantastic workaround for now:

    1) Insert the e-signature in the e-mail (which inserts a link) and look at the URL that it's inserting. It's in the format:

    http://www.jotformpro.com/uploads/username/formnumber/id/id_nameofsignature.png

    2) Replace the ID with {id} in both places and then replace the e-signature in the e-mail with an image tag that specifies this newly constructed URL as the image URL.

    @trencher

    Good idea though ...

    @EltonCris

Can't the dev team just slap an <img> tag around this url and job done in the html email ??

How does the signature show in the unedited default email? That works perfectly. What's so hard about getting it to work in an email that a user edits the format of.

Got me baffled why its taken over a month to get this working ... it is the critical thing to do with e-signature.

No one's going anywhere with it until then

    Thanks Mark

That goes for everyone else too you know!

As it stands its pretty much useless ... you can't tell a client "yeah you'll have to click this link to see the signature" ... that's not what they want ... I've asked them

Why would a company go to all the bother of developing a function ... that doesn't do the critical thing and get delivered as an image in an email?

    Beyond me :-0

I haven't been able to use this because none of my clients want a service that doesn't deliver the e-signature in email .... end of story.

    To everyone in this thread,

I know it has been unnecessarily long time since this post was created and remained open. You guys are totally right about your complaints but i have my excuses.

I am a full-stack javascript engineer here and instead of maintaining my job is developing, setting up new products and pages. Since February(the date this post was created) we released JotformInstant, JotformAnywhere, new MyAccount Page and e-signature. Normally after developing new features it is maintainance team's job to fix bugs, issues about new features, but for e-signature it could not be happen because it is more complicated than it seems, this is the first reason why it is not been fixed still. Second reason is we had very busy times and lots of work, i know it is not a real excuse indeed maybe i could devote an extra 3 hours after work.. i am sorry about this issue.

Long story short it will be fixed today and i hope you guys understand.

Just to wrap up the issue,

Tested a form with 3 signature fields.

    1. Default Notification mails work properly  (user should display images on email)

    2. Default Auto-Responder mails work properly (user should display images on email)

    3. Notification in with HTML Mode works properly

    4. Auto-Responder in with HTML Mode works propery

    5. Both mail in Text Mode contains images as long URL (e.g. http://www.jotformpro.com/uploads/mdikici/31292689246968/233996042461280211/233996042461280211_signature_1.png)

As far as i understand ugly image URLs only seem in mails in TextMode which is as it should be. Emails in text modes do not contain HTML tags.

"What's so hard about getting it to work in an email that a user edits the format of."

Yes you are right but you should edit the format in HTML mode. When you first opened email editing screen if you click to "switch to text mode" then your mail will be sent as text (mail clients will open it as text). You shoul edit your emails in HTML Mode.

Please let me know if i miss something, waiting for input.

    Thanks.

I'll do more testing when I have a moment but this looks good ;-)
