How can customers buy different quantities of the options/variations on a single item?

Asked by zeraph on April 02, 2013 at 05:09 PM

Hi! I have a question regarding payment forms. Currently, the way the form is set up, a customer can buy a certain quantity of an item, and they can also choose an "option" or variation of the item. For example, in my product, they can choose Natural, Aged, or Patina. However, they can't choose 1 Natural, 2 Aged, 0 Patina, for example.

Would it be possible to set this up? I've mocked up how it might look. I'm open to workarounds. Of course, there is an obvious workaround that is to just make the variations into different items-- this isn't preferred, although we will do it if necessary of course.

Would this be possible? It seems like it could be, and I'm willing to work with the code if necessary to the best of my ability.

    Thanks very much,

    Dylan

    Hi Dylan,

Yes you are correct on that though. The only way you can achieve that on the builder is by just adding the variations into another item. Maybe you can also give us more details or explanation why you cannot just do that preference. Maybe then, we can offer you some suggestion.

I am not inclined to suggest to you using the form's source code (though you can do anytime), because it would take considerable effort to break the payment fields code.

    Please update us.

    Thanks.

Hi, thank you for your answer.

Mostly it's in the interest of having a shorter, easier to understand, form for the clients who will be using it. Right now there are 7 items on the form, but if each variation becomes its own item, that will expand to something like 16 items. It would be longer, possibly somewhat more cumbersome for the client.

Thank you for directing me to the source code... I will take a look, although I am sure you are right especially with my limited ability to work with javascript.

Thank you for taking the time to update us.

With the information you have provided, I will submit a feature request ticket to our next level support. I will request if the payment field options/features can be further enhance or tweak to accomodate the idea you have describe.

I am not guaranteeing anything at this time as this will still go to approval process before it can be work on.

We will update you via email or on this thread for any updates on the progress of this.

    Thanks.

    Hello Dylan,

Sorry for the very delayed update, but I would like to inform you that this feature is now available.

    Here's a sample form:

You can easily break down your products into multiple variants by choosing which option to base the variants from.

Please let us know if you have questions, concerns or suggestions. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!
