Are validation conditions possible with JotForm?

Asked by cmoore on April 16, 2011 at 09:44 AM

I have a very complex form that has several required fields along with several hide/show conditions. One of the fields that is required is High School State (dropdown selection) that upon selection shows the corresponding drop-down selection of high schools to choose from. If the user does not see his high school he selects a checkbox that shows a textfield input that allows him to input his school's name. So if checkbox is selected I would like highschool state not be be required but the textfield input will then be required.

    Hi,

Unfortunately no, that is not possible. A field's "Required" status, whether on or off, is fixed and cannot be dynamically changed by conditions in any way.

What I can suggest for your form is to remove the "I don't see my school" checkbox and put it instead as an option for the "School" drop down. Then, create a condition such as that when the user picks "I don't see my school" in the drop down, the "School Name" textbox appears. Each of those fields involved should then be set as "Required".

I hope this simple solution helps. Let me know if you need any clarifications.
