FEATURE REQUEST: Additional/Hidden Charge Scaling Product Calculator for PayPal Fees

Asked by gwgrubb on June 20, 2013 at 10:23 AM

    Did it work?

Paypal simply  takes whatever the registration form sends them then adds their charges which are. 2.9% of the ttl regist fee plus a flat fee of 30cents per transaction. To beat this we have to update / upcharge from the jotform side… HOW TO DO SO????????????This is the only way we break even on fees. You can set up two more line items in each registration page that take the ttls , chrg the 2.9 then add 30cents….Then when they submit, it goes on to paypal.

Unfortunately at the moment to my knowledge I don't really know of a way that we offer which would be modifying this to cover the PayPal costs. Perhaps I am misunderstanding your actual question though. It seems to me so far that this https://www.paypal.com/webapps/mpp/merchant-fees is what you speak of and you wish to scale the price on our end to include it so that it covers this charge for the most part along with the cost of your product I think? Please correct me if I am still wrong. To be honest i'm not really sure of a way to do that on our end since the total is physically submitted as a whole so doing this would only combine and raise that fee including the transaction charge so this would defeat the purpose of doing it. The closest you could get to that is as you mentioned which is to upcharge since we have no control over PayPal's actual fees.

KadeJM...I am not asking about modifying what PayPal charges us once the transaction gets sent to them....I just want to boost the ttl, then send to them. I do not care if we pay PayPal slightly more due to what I want the form to do....For every $100 in submission to Paypal we are charged 2.90 +.30 or $3.20. If we pass through 103.20 to paypal from the form, we will be charged an additional 9 cents. (103.20 x 2.9% +.30 or 103.29)The difference in the PayPal fee to us charged on the new ttl is acceptable.....I want the clients to pay the fees to us as part of the total.....the total will be sent off of your form to the PayPal system....
Your forms should be able to handle additional calculations if they are as robust as I think they are...think of it as adding a shipping charge or transaction fee....The forms we developed already perform a multiplier function taking the number of registrations by dentists and the number of registrations for staff then giving me a total. This is great. I just want to add 2 more calculations.

Okay, so in theory to make sure I am understanding you correctly. You are basically requesting a feature that will display this scaled difference if selected as an option on your form to show those that fill in your form that they will be charged a scaled fee for the transaction as part of the cost?

So for instance if someone is paying $100 for one product that you are selling. The transaction would then display that 2.9% of this is being additionally charged and added to the original transaction for the product as $2.90 + $.30 for a grand total of $103.20 to be sent to PayPal to cover everything then? You see something that would caculate and total this then automatically? Or? This could then be used based on what products are chosen but it would still scale accordingly? You could also possibly elect to hide or show whether the customer sees that as a subcharge fee or just the grand total.

Thank you for the confirmation about that. I've gone ahead and opened up a Ticket about this as a Feature Request. Our developers will look into this as a possible improvement feature for consideration. If something like this becomes available we will let you know in an update to this thread.

    Hi Gary,

I am sorry if this response might be a little too late, but we have recently added Shipping Cost and Tax feature for Paypal payment forms.

I think you can easily charge your buyers the transaction cost you get from Paypal with the use of either of these two variables.

These options can be found in the payment integration wizard.

Please do try it and let us know what you think.

    Thanks!
