    date formatting in notification emails

    Asked by Masalamedia on July 05, 2013 at 06:10 AM

    I've seen the support document about date formatting in emails (http://www.jotform.com/help/68-Using-Dates-in-Email-Templates) but that narrative keeps referring to a field called {DATE}. My fields are called other things like {MyDepartureDate} and when I add the extra formatting suggested, my notification emails display NO date information at all.

    Can you please clarify that this is the correct way to insert a merge field into a notification email with a trigger for special formatting? (assuming the standard merge field is called {MyDpartureDate}

    {MyDepartureDate:Full-EU}

    If that is correct, then I'm getting a fail because that merge field ends up being blank in my notification email

    Hi MMC, it almost sounds like you are using the two together which might be breaking the date usage since it is probably causing a conflict possibly. I believe you are referring to this guide here http://www.jotform.com/help/68-Using-Dates-in-Email-Templates.

    I've tested this on clone of your form and found that that is the case. The date is only configured to use the mentioned tags the way they are. It looks like they haven't been configured yet to be customizable so as far as I can tell after testing it some. It's not going to let you use " {MyDepartureDate:Full-EU} " since it doesn't appear to be recognizable after I checked it.

    When I tried that I could see that nothing came through at all so it was empty -

    But then when I used the normal tags both came through in my second test -

     07-05-2013  {ArrivalDate}

    I can confirm this because after testing it a third time with a completely different tag style it still was not recognizing the customization of this so I don't think it's fully set up yet to work like this as it came through empty yet again this time.

    2013-07-05 14:08:02 {DATE} - Only the DATEtag came through.

    Hi: I'm not sure what you mean by "using two together".

    Let me re-explain to be crystal clear:

    The form I'm building has two date fields: arrival date and departure date. Bread-and-butter data for a travel company.

    I set up this test form to troubleshoot the date format problem and included just one date field for testing.

    In notification emails I need the date format to be in a format that a team of people in multiple countries will understand. 3/2/2013 is not acceptable since that could be feb 3 or march 2. I need a non-mistakeable, definitive date format such as 03-FEB-2013 or 02-MAR-2013.

    I don't care about the date or time the form was submitted. I need the departure an arrival dates formatted in a usable way.

    Please advise how to do this.

    Hi,

    Unfortunately, there is currently no way you can format DateTime field with your desired output. What I could suggest is add a few text to explain the format.

    Example: 06-07-2013 (Format is: Date-Month-Year)

    Or, use our Birthdate Field instead and just label it with Departure and Arrival:

    Output:

    Thanks

    If you'd like this to be a feature when setting up a notification or auto responder. I'd suggest you to please create a separate thread for us to add that to our Feature Request List.

    Thanks
