JotForm emails: Request to implement list-unsubscribe header to reduce spam score of JotForm emails

Is it possible to add a list-unsubscribe header to customer emails sent from a Jotform form?

    Kind regards,

    Simon

Hello Simon! I believe that you're referring to the autoresponder emails that are sent to the users after they fill out any form on JotForm. Currently, it isn't possible to add any header to these emails if sent via JotForm.

However, JotForm allows its users to use their own SMTP servers as well to send out these emails alerts related to their account. You can configure JotForm to use your SMTP server and then configure your SMTP server to send this header with every email being sent (you'll need to get in touch with your email provider regarding this).

You also have an option to turn off email autoresponders completely for a form by simply deleting the autoresponders from Form Settings.

Also, I am escalating your concern as a Feature Request; this could be a good addition to JotForm features to reduce its spam score. In case this gets gets approved and implemented by the concerned department, you will be notified via an email under this thread.

Thank you for your valuable suggestion.

    Thanks.

I'm using my own SMTP servers now and am working with some of the spam checker services to score my outbound autoresponder emails.

One way to significantly reduce the spam score is to add SPF entries to my DNS.

It seems that Jotform uses the 94.136.40.0/24 ip address range to send outbound mail from. Is that correct?

Are there any other ip address ranges that I should add to my SPF entries?

    Kind regards,

    Simon

Hi Simon! These are the SPF records used by JotForm: https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=spf:jotform.com&newAppVersion=1

But I don't think you need to implement JotForm's SPF records in your DNS. As you are using your own SMTP service to deliver email alerts, you only need to add SPF entries specific to your email service provider into your DNS records. You can ask your email service provider for these SPF entries.

I hope this helps. For any further queries, feel free to write back to us.

Sorry I didnt phrase my question properly.

I'm sending email via my own SMTP server (hilltopkennels.co.uk) but the mail is being sent from jotform servers which appear to be sending from ip addresses in the range 94.136.40.0/24

Spam checkers validate that the senders ip address is explicitly defined in the domain's dns SPF records.

I have added the range 94.136.40.0/24 but I was trying to find out what other IP ranges might be used for jotform to send mail from. Also to clarify if the sending ip address range is the full 94.136.40.0/24 or a smaller subset?

    Many thanks.

Thank you for the explanation. The exact SPF entry that JotForm uses is: v=spf1 ip4:152.160.0.0/16 ip4:78.157.218.0/24 ip4:74.63.245.96/28 include:amazonses.com include:_spf.google.com -all

IP4 ranges that I see in this entry are 152.160.0.0/16, 78.157.218.0/24 and 74.63.245.96/28.

    I don't see 94.136.40.0/24 in the specified IP4 ranges for JotForm's domain.

You can find details about this entry in MXToolbox: https://mxtoolbox.com/SuperTool.aspx?action=spf:jotform.com&newAppVersion=1

I hope this helps. For further queries, feel free to let us know.

    Hi Patrick,

Ok, I guess I'm not explaining myself properly.

I do not need to know the jotform spf entries (that is for jotform's use only and allows them to authorise certain ip addresses to send on their behalf)

I need to know the originating ip addresses that jotform sends mail from when it connects to my own smtp server, i know that it sends mail from 94.136.40.159 and also 94.136.40.62 and also 94.136.40.146 as when i trigger autoresponder emails, these are the addresses that have been the source ip addresses for mail sending

There may be others, hence i have authorised the entire 94.136.40.xxx range though this may be overkill and therefore less secure

I have therefore added these ip addresses to my SPF entries to authorise them to send mail through my smtp server for hilltopkennels.co.uk

Spam filters check for SPF entries that match the sender ip address in order to decide whether the mail is legitimate or not.

My question therefore is are you able to give me a list of the source ip addresses that jotform will be using to send email through my smtp server in order that I may add those ip addresses to my SPF entries, instead of just having a blanket full range authorisation.

    eg

ip 94.136.40.159 => connects to my smtp server and sends an email as admin@hilltopkennels.co.uk

third party spamfilter checks for an spf entry in the hilltopkennels.co.uk DNS settings for 94.136.40.159 - if one exists it scores low for spam, if it doesn't exist then the msg will be marked as potential spam

If this isn't clear, could this ticket be escalated to someone with specific dns/spf experience?

    Many thanks,

    Simon
