Something is up with the configurable list Widget

Ok, so this is the second form of mine on which a Configurable List Widget has suddenly started misbehaving after months of use. The first thread can be found here:

    http://www.jotform.com/answers/2440803-Configurable-list-not-displaying-add-option-on-mobile

Now, on another form, (https://form.jotform.com/200905991970058) the widget has just suddenly started to randomly throw entry data away, as can be seen in the screenshots attached. I must emphasised that it has worked for months without a glithc or a change of any variety.

I have reset the cache, and tried to troubleshoot, but to no avail. This is extremely disconcerting, as I have many forms running at the moment, and am now developing trust issues and thinking of moving platforms.

It's a required field, and therefore cannot be left empty. It is somehow emptied on submit, even though all other fields are retained. Again, nothing has been changed on this form, it has just suddenly started happening out of the blue.

Since the issue can't be replicated except on an intermittent basis, I've gone ahead and cleared your form caches from here in hopes it doesn't re-occur. Also, the issue can't be replicated on a cloned version of the form.

Should this issue produces again, kindly let us know so we can further investigate or escalate to developers if needed.

Moreover, I would like to recommend that you duplicate the addressed widget, hide it, and start using the new one.

I hope I have been of any help.

Please investigate further - The forms that these widgets are involved in are quite complex with many conditions, and I am afraid that duplicating the widgets and switching over will have far-reaching unintended consequences.

    Hi @HenleyAir

I am sorry you are going through this. Could you provide a couple of submission IDs related to the submissions with empty fields, so we can investigate it further?

Thanks. It started with ID 4706980802694557936 and has been happening even since (4707704456613238221 and 4707912050718983606) I have tested it with a test entry (4708787086242379674) and it happened as well - the configurable list widget drops its data on submit, and is empty when you open it in edit mode.

The users might have been able to bypass the fields due to their browser's javascript being disabled/turned off. The required fields are checked using javascript and as such if they are disabled, then the user will be able to submit the form even if a required field is not filled.

In order to prevent the user from submitting the form, if their javascript is disabled, you can add the NoScript widget to your form. When this widget is added to the form, it will conditionally hide the entire form and display the message you defined when JavaScript is disabled in their browser.

You can find the widget here: https://www.jotform.com/widgets/search/noscript

Can you please add the widget on the form and then test again?

This is definitely not the problem, as the original submission PDFs contain the missing data. So it writes the PDF then deletes the data. Screenshot of ID 4706980802694557936 original submission PDF, where you can clearly see the missing data:

Did you get this PDF in the email?

When I have checked the PDF in the PDF Editor it does not have any information in the Configurable List widget in the PDF:

    https://www.jotform.com/pdf-editor/200905991970058?submission=4706980802694557936

    https://www.jotform.com/pdf-editor/200905991970058?submission=4706980802694557936

Is the form embedded in any website?

Is all your form submission edited? I see those submissions which have missing Configurable List details have been edited.

May we know the browser details with which it is edited?

We are waiting for further details

    Thanks.

I think the configurable list data is removed when it is edited via email by you in a specific browser:

As you can see the above Get Page URLs the missing data has been edited via the email or somewhere.

Would you mind sharing details on how are you editing the submissions?

    Thanks.

Yes, it seems to disappear just after the initial submission is written to PDF. The PDF is received on email as well as saved to Dropbox. Thus in subsequent PDFs (at or after editing) it is missing.

Yes, it gets edited by the same person on Chrome as has been editing it for months. This error has just suddenly popped up. This form and widget was working perfectly for months, with the same person editing submissions three times in total for each entry at various stages of the maintenance process.

We apologize that you are experiencing these issues. We do understand of course, that this issue must be fixed as soon as possible.

In order to understand further whether the widget shows the submission data when someone edits the form, I unhid the widget from the edit link. It shows a strange behavior in my opinion.

    1595167436Kapture 2020-07-19 at 18.01.17

As you can see, the submission data is shown in the widget (as entered by me before). However, it seems like even though the field is filled, the widget does still not accept the data. Only after editing, will it accept it.

I am not entirely familiar with how this widget should behave in this case but I'm quite sure that this is not the expected behavior.

Please allow me to investigate with my colleagues. We will come back to you shortly.

    Thank you for your patience.

    Hi Tom

You've hit the nail on the head - this is exactly how I picked up the error for the first time. And it suddenly started this week. Like I've said several times, it was working absolutely fine for many submissions before, with the exact same actions on the exact same browser. That's why I'm saying that there is something up with this widget, as one of our other forms with this widget also started acting up this week after over 1000 submissions of things being hunky dory (thread http://www.jotform.com/answers/2440803-Configurable-list-not-displaying-add-option-on-mobile)

Thank you again for your patience and apologies for the late reply.

I tried a few things in order to get closer to the issue. However, I could still not reproduce it.

    1. I build another form that contains conditions like yours to hide the field. All submissions were unaffected by edits.

    2. I checked all of your conditions and excluded all conditions that contain the field. There was no change in the behaviour and form data still disappeared.

    3. I changed the setting for the option Clear Hidden Field Values to On Submit.

    1595192741Screenshot 2020-07-20 at 1.04.

Interestingly the field behaviour changed with this setting. After editing, all the other hidden fields data were removed from the submission (as expected), except that of the Configurable List widget (as you can see in the screencap below):

    1595193041Kapture 2020-07-20 at 1.10.05.

I will raise a ticket to our developers to have a look at this issue, even though I could not reproduce this behaviour in my own test form. However, it is consisting in a cloned version of your form.

As a temporary workaround, could you consider to unhide the widget in editing mode?

I agree that this means to be extremely careful not to accidentally remove any information from the field. However, for the moment I can not think of an alternative to stopping the field from removing the data from the submission.

Thank you again for your patience. Understandably this is a very critical issue and we will update you as soon as we hear from our developers.

We are looking forward to your reply.

Thank you, I will unhide it and await your response. Something must've changed on this widget's back-end programming recently, so good luck with the troubleshooting!
