Multiple requests waiting for solution for Grid Report Titles, Grid report thumbnail images and manage deletions on Filepicker+S3 bucketAsked by markashton on July 23, 2013 at 10:33 AM
The filepicker integration of late has taken many hours of my time and resource and yet I don't have a working solution to the problem I initially came to you with.
My interaction that has benefitted the jotform side of the equation on this issue is as follows:
- Instant testing for jotform in 'real-time' that benefited the filepicker integration
- Access to my own personal google spreadsheets for jotform to work on google spreadsheet integration issues related to the filepicker integration (no solution in it for me as I flagged it up that it couldn't work early on)
- Jotform happily testing uploads on my filepicker and Amazon S3 accounts
- Stacks of posts taking multiple hours that provide great value and incite to jotform.
Now I don't expect a medal … but when I come out the other end WITHOUT a working solution … and everyone seems to have ridden off in the sunset … it makes one feel pissed off.
Let me explain …
Grid reports ….
My extensive explanation into why we should go the option to have a thumbnail image embedded into grid reports instead of the hover thumbnail was ignored in favour of implementing the already flawed hover thumbnail: http://www.jotform.com/answers/245759--Grid-Reports-Add-thumbnail-images-for-image-video-uploads
Please note the post above … July 19 2013 at 07:44am … where I painstakingly advise against this to go with the better solution of embedding the thumbnail into the report. It's a beautiful solution.
But instead … you put engineering resource into the flawed option which …

… hasn't been fixed and is thus unusable - no one wants their clients to think you haven't got any attention-to-detail - does it look professional to have images all lying on their side? If you think so ... I know you are not providing clients with reports ... you wouldn't dare.
… is actually quicker to fire the image up directly because the thumbnail often doesn't load first time. Fraid so.
… all in all … you shouldn't have bothered because it is sub-standard - nice idea - but sub-standard … but at least consistent with the html report ;-?
So, for these reasons I can't really use it for photo reporting … it makes me look an amateur … and coupled with the fact you've hard-wired the Page Title "Jotform - Grid" to lose any anonymity: http://www.jotform.com/answers/246949-Change-Page-Title-Of-Grid-Report-From-Jotform-Grid-to-Grid-Report- I know I can embed it - but that transaltes to tripling the time for report production when if you just changed one word ….
Because I desperately require the image in the report I looked for other solutions …

Then I tried to access the url of the image directly - that would give me the means to get an image into a grid report: http://www.jotform.com/answers/245540-Reference-Just-The-Image-URL-Part-of-an-Image-Upload Nothing forthcoming there then … we all know that's dead in the water.

Any chance we can nail a couple of these points that were so hot a week ago?

I'm not having a rant ... sometimes there is the need to clearly spell things out ...
We appreciate very much when you point out issues or request for new features. The dev team has tried to do their best to keep up with your requests. This shows you we care and we understand your concerns
However, posting multiple issues in a single thread is not going to work good.
For example: Apparently the way how the grid report works now, showing the image upon mouse hovering in the correct orientation is something you requested on this thread https://www.jotform.com/answers/243704 and it's been solved. I have included this as a feature/fix in my next post of Jotform updates. =)
However, I can see that, according to this thread https://www.jotform.com/answers/245759, now you need to show the image itself just like it shows on submissions PDF rather than showing image upon hover
Probably this is something that might confuse our developer in charge, which I think might be Kenneth or Alp.
At any rate, my best recommendation for you is to follow up a particular request/issue in its own thread. For organization purpuses, we need to get track of each request/fix and that's why we open individual tickets and kindly request to speak about the particular issue in the pertaining thread.
We really appreciate you take time for testing/reporting , it will benefit not only you, but the overall functioning of these Jotform features. That is why you are probably the most spoiled customer we have =)
I'll pass this onto our 2nd level engineers, hopefully this so much requested features will be added/fixed soon

I am in charge of the updates, the thumbnail orientation problem was fixed this weekend as I can se on the reports I get from their releases.
I have tested your claim that the orientation in reports has been fixed and can confirm this is not the case ...
