    Conditional formatting priorities

Asked by submit10 on August 26, 2013 at 08:18 AM

    Hi,

I am wishing to create a form with conditional formating on conditional form callapse. I want to remove the priority order though, as this is preventing certain collapses from working.

For example I have a drop down menu with 24 options. Depending on the selection I want the user to only access a specified collapsed part of the form. It works for the first choise, however it does not wor for all consecutive choises as the first rule overrides the other 23 selections.

    Hello,

    Link is:

    http://form.jotform.co/form/32307457798870

On the first page, the drop down menu should set the rules of teh following page. The first dropdown 'computer episodic' should an ddoes display the correct feilds. However when you select the following 'computer entertainment' the fields do not show. These fields should be the same for both catagories with the exception that 2 additional fields should be hidden.

When I switch the rules around, then the opposite happens. ie. It is applying the first rule to all of my rules. What I want to be able to do is: If user selects "a" = show 'x'. if user selects 'b' = show 'y' if user selects 'c' = show x +y

This is of course dependant on the award catagories.

Does this clone of your form work correctly? If so, clone it and have a look at its conditions. Basically, since the rules were identical for both choices, except for the two fields to be hidden, I combined them in the second condition and then got rid of the duplicates in the first one, leaving just the "Hide" rules in place.

Ah yes this works in this instance... however my fields get more complicated as the dropdown list grows. I suppose what i am after is a way to have rules select a group of feilds dependant on a menu selection, almost like a database. Ie. if i have 20 pages - i may choose pages 1,3,5 for one selection, and then pages 1,2,3 for another etc etc. thanks for your help though!

You can hide/show group of fields using form collapse. I think this would help. Here's a guide:

How to Hide or Show Multiple Fields at Once Based On a Single Conditional Entry

This is the only workaround I could add here. I'm not sure how to do the function you are trying to achieve, sounds not doable with JotForm.

I hope the grouping of fields would help. Thanks!

The form currently has this. But what I want to do is have my form collapse multiple variables dependant on the  drop down selection. It seems as if though the variables work through a priority order which is not what i want.

I looked at the saved conditions for your form and I understand what you would like to achieve. I would suggest that you try Abajan suggestion as that's the closet it will get to the what you would like. You can add as many ORs as possible to each condition this way you will be able to control which group of options are able to see specific fields.

If you would like you can send us a list of how a few more of the conditions are expected to work so that we can try to implement it and provide a better solution for you.

    Thanks!

Ok I have added another category now that needs another collapse added to it but not the first 2 catagories. This collapse now appears no matter what the selection despite the 'if not' commnad. Link to updated form is: http://form.jotformpro.com/form/32387940847971

Changing the second condition from a "Show" one to a "Hide" appears to fix this issue:

Here's how the form would behave
with the above change. Is this the desired functionality?

Incidentally, if you still want the "Audio Director (1)" and "Audio Director (2)" fields hidden when Computer Episodic is selected (like in the first clone), add a third condition:

This is all starting to work very well with my form now. So thank you for this. I do still have a problem..

    http://form.jotformpro.com/form/32387940847971

When I select one of teh first 4 catagories from the dropdown menu- i should be able to see the "

Additional Crew - acknowledgement only" collapse on page 3. The heading appears, however the collapse is in bold and wont open.
Also, if i select 'Animated Feature' i shouldnt see the 'Time in out points'. These are not being hidden.

Check if this works as intended: http://form.jotform.me/form/32399054446460?. You can clone this afterwards.

I just moved the hide "time in" condition above the entire condition so it'd be prioritized. The other issue about "Additional Crew - acknowledgement only" was caused by some html formatting. Kindly check now.

    Thanks!

Hello. Ok, I am very close to finishing this form however i have a problem with one of my rules not executing a hide command.

    http://form.jotformpro.com/form/32403429600949

If you select 'Feature Language English Dialogue/ ADR' or TV Short form Dialogue/ ADR" or TV Longform Dialogue/ ADR" the 'Required music editing questions' and 'Required questions for mostly animated productions' should be hidden. This rule is at the bottom of my rule list.

    Cheers
