What is done with IPN messages for subscriptions?

Asked by drea on August 28, 2013 at 05:49 AM

I don't see anywhere to view payment status/history. We've got members who have been paying monthly for years after clicking a Jotform and IPN messages are going to you, and I really need to find a way to get those IPN messages. Do you only use IPN for verifying the first payment? Is there any way I can forward/retrieve IPN messages or payment status from you (akin to this feature request? http://www.jotform.com/answers/47810-I-would-love-a-PayPal-IPN-forward-with-submission-data )

I'm also trying to get PayPal to let me change the IPN URL for these longstanding payments, but it doesn't seem possible so far.

The last thing I can do is ask these people to delete and recreate their payment profile. It's such a hassle, we'll lose out on hundreds of dollars a month. It'd be really useful to figure out how to get this data somehow (API?) but so far it seems PayPal and JotForm provide no good upgrade paths once we stop being a super-small business and start needing automated data. We got locked in to these instant recurring payments which have zero API support and it's killing me. Your help is greatly appreciated.

IPN should be enabled at paypal side, just like the last post in thread you are referring to explains.

You can take advantage of it with our integration, however, I don't think this will send notifications retroactively. It will work only with new payments

At any rate, to enable IPN and make it to work with our current Paypal integration please follow the steps below:

Go into your Paypal account, Click on the Profile menu, select My Selling Prefences

Midway down the next page is a 'Instant payment notifications' field, select click on the Update button to the right of it.

Click Choose IPN Settings, Enter http://www.jotform.net/ipns/paypal.php into the Notification URLtext box and ensure Receive IPN Message (Enabled) radio button is selected. Click Save.
