(feature request)Force Selection From Default On Dropdowns

Asked by markashton on September 23, 2013 at 05:54 AM

    Hi,

    Consider a dropdown ....

Consider an option that says -Please Select-

Then use the selected option in preferences ... to have the -Please Select- as the default.

Then you have the perfect dropdown ... a call to action with your options underneath.

But if you set it as required ... the -please select- is considered as one of the options and therefore doesn't have to be changed ...

See this form .. you could submit it as it is ... but that is not what you want is it?

The feature that is required here is: "Force selection from default".

Thanks ... if there is an existing solution I am missing would you be kind enough to advise me.

If not would you put it in fron of Aytekins eyes

    Thanks Regards Mark

    Hi,

There is no such option using the dropdown field at the moment, but you can achieve what you are looking for by applying conditions  to the dropwon menu options. For example:

If the user doesn't made any selection(didn't changed to an other option different than "-plese select") you can hide the submit button and show a heading text field  showing the alert.

    here is an example:

    Hope it helps

please let us know if you need further assistance

    thanks

    Hi,

Thanks for that ... but it is a hack to a feature that is lacking.

It does work ... but I don't want my clients, and their respondents, looking at the form and seeing that as a default .. will just serve to confuse on short forms ... which is what I am doing.

Can I put this in as a feature request please

    Thanks Mark
