    Link in contact form ?

Asked by ipbr21054 on October 18, 2013 at 05:25 AM

    My form is pre populated.

On the form is a reference number which tells me which item the customer would like to purchase.

As my site will increase and the items for sale will become many is there a way that when i receive the completed form i can click on the reference number & be taken to the html page in question to then show me what the item is.

As you understand i will not be able to remember every item & its reference number.

Please advise how a hyperlink etc is possible for this to happen.

    See image below.

    Thanks

    Hi,

You can achieve what you are looking for by editing your form notifications layout, making the Reference Number a clickeable link. In order to make this happens automaticly you will need to take some directions intoaccount:

    REFERENCE NUMBER HTML PAGES:

They should have the same name of the reference number in order to map it automatically with the corresponding HTML file , for example:

    Honda026 ----- Honda026.html

Once your reference number HTML files are renamed, it is time to edit the email notification layout:

    Select your email notification:

    From your email notification editor:

    1. Select the reference number field with your mouse, {referenceNumber9}

    2. Click on the link icon

    3. Add the link URL, in this case I used a domain example, replace it with your own http://www.ie.com/{referenceNumber9}.html , please check the URL final part {referenceNumber9}.html this will do the trick.

Click on update and finish editing your email notification.

Here is an example already edited, you can clone it in order to make further investigations:

    Hope it helps

I can see that in the reference number list of your form, you have Audi001, Audi002  as reference numbers for Audi, so your html files for Audi should be Audi001.html and Audi002.html the same for the rest of references codes

    Thanks

You mean the reference number list on the form correct.

    AUDI001

    AUDI002

    BMW001 ETC ETC,Change to

    AUDI001.html

    AUDI002.html

    BMW001.html

    Is this correct ?

Tell me when you received the email when i completed the form did the clickable link work for you ?

Yes I mean the reference number list on the form, remember that you should respect the same format of the refreneces number of the list, for example:

If the reference number selected is Audi001, the link generated  by the email notification will be Audi001.html , your references numbers have the first letter in capitals so it is not AUDI001 the name of the html file you need to create, it should be Audi001.html

The email when you completed the form example I made will not work, because I made that notification with an URL domain example, I checked your form at your account, and the email notification is well configurated for your domain www.theremotedoctor.co.uk  now you only have to create the html files for each reference number respecting the same format of the reference Number of the list, if the html file corresponding to a X reference number is not created, you will get a 404 error message.

    Hope it helps

    Thanks

    Hi,

    REFERENCE LIST:

Please change back the list named without the .html  as it is already added in the email notification {referenceNumber9}.html.

I will explain how it works with an example:

    1. The user choose Audi001 from the list.

    2. Once you gets the submission, the link generated will be http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/Audi001.html

    3. Once you  click on that link, it will open the page http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/Audi001.html

So, the name of the files should be the same as the reference list with the .html at the end.

    Please check this files:

    Name of files

    Refrence list

Finally the html file example you copy, the filename should be Audi001.html with the first letter in capital letter, then you should upload that file to your web page www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/Audi001.html. The same with the rest of the files.

    Hope it helps

    Thanks

    Please do this for me.

Check the link in my email notification is correct {referenceNumber9} etc

Check that the list in my reference form is correct Audi001 Audi002 etc etc

Then we will take it from there if you dont mind.

    Hi,

    Email notification is correct

    The List is correct too.

I selected Bmw002 in my cloned version of your form, and the notification came with the link: http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/Bmw002.html

Now you only need to upload the html files to your website in order to not receive the 404 error.

    Thanks

    Ok

    I complete the form.

    I receive the email.

I click on the Audi001 link and a new page opens and i then see the 404 message with the address shown below.

    http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/Audi001.html

Sorry this is taken time but where are the files i need to upload to the website.

All my files on my local site are on the remote site ?

So i am lost as to what other file i need to upload ?

    Hi,

each file created with the reference code details should be uploaded to your site hosting, for example: after investigating your site, I found this html file http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/bmw_keys.html on the remote site , well you should upload all the reference code html files (Audi001.html, Audi002.html....etc) to the same directory where http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/bmw_keys.html  resides on the remote side.

    hope it clarifies.

    Thanks

I made mistake with a now i have changed it with A

The way my code is configured i do not see a photo, but forget about that as i can sort something out.

As opposed to adding many files to the public folder can i add a folder within the public folder and your form point to the folder ?

    Hi,

the photos doesn't appear because they still located under the /public_html/audi/ folder, in  order to see the photos they will need to be at the same directory.

You can add a folder within the public folder in order to store all the reference code html files,  then you should change the URL linking to the reference code pages of your form.

    Change the URL from:

     http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/{referenceNumber9}.html

    to

     http://www.theremotedoctor.co.uk/subfolder/{referenceNumber9}.html

Where subfolder is just an example, change it with your own subfolder name, remember that this new subfolder will be located at /public_html/subfolder/
