Can responders save their progress and return at a later time?

Asked by Jessica on November 21, 2013 at 11:44 AM

I used your free form last summer for an annual report.  It used a variety of question types, including a file upload feature.  Our responants reported frustration with responses and files getting lost between work sessions.  Do your paid plans fix this problem?

    Please advise.

    Thank you,

    Thanks for contacting us Jessica.

You don't need to upgrade to resolve this problem. You can use our Save form entries to continue later feature, in that way your form users can stop completing your form and continue at a later date. You can learn how to use this function by following these steps:

    1. While editing your form find and Click "Setup and Embed"

    2. Find and Click "Preferences"

    3. On Preferences Tab, find and click "Advance Settings"

    4. On Advance Settings tab, find and click "Edit Auto Fill Settings"

    5. Set to "Enable" and choose "Time" interval to save changes.

    Jotform - Easiest Form Builder

You can find these same steps along with a video in the next guide: How to Enable Auto Fill Feature | Save Form Entries to Continue Later

We also have an alternative workaround, you can find the details at the next guide: How to save forms to continue later

And you can do all of this with the Free plan.

I hope this helps. Please let us know if you need further assistance with this or kindly open a new thread to post unrelated issues.

    Thanks

Thank you for your help a while back with the settings to save forms to
continue later. The menu choices have changed a bit since the tutorial but
I think I've set it up correctly anyway. It seems to repopulate answers
when a respondent leaves and returns. However, uploaded documents
    disappear.
Is there a way to have that progress be saved, too?
Also, can you provide me with instructions I should share with my
respondents about the continue later function (ie cookie settings, IP
addresses, etc.)? I'm hoping to preempt the frustration that many had last
year when they used this form for a similar report.
    Thanks so much!

I think you can use the session method, rather than the Autofill method to make this to work with your users

That way you can create an autoresponder and include the URL so your user can get back later on

A simpler method would be to just include the edit link in an autoresponder

    Hi,
I have set up the 2 form system with the session method. I am getting the
emails and the link just fine but when I return to the partially-completed
form, the previously uploaded files are gone. It appears that this has
been a bug since 2011 and I found a discussion about it here:
    http://www.jotform.com/answers/42617-Comments-about-tutorial-How-to-Save-Forms-to-Continue-Later
The response says it was fixed but this does not appear to be the case.
    Please help me,

    Oh, good grief.
Now, when I return to the form, even most of my buttons and text boxes are
empty in a form that I've technically submitted AND none of the
attachments/uploads went into my Dropbox that is linked to the form.
This is the first time in more than a year that the uploads didn't get
    imported to Dropbox appropriately.
Any help with this problem and assurance that my respondents won't have
this trouble next month would be most appreciated.

The session method is just a one time opportunity to update a submission

Including the edit link in an autoresponder could be a better workaround for you
