How to collect and transmit confidential data securely with JotForm?Asked by rentasota on December 02, 2013 at 01:39 AM
I'd like to build a form that collects confidential data for an application. I have a few specific questions:
1. Is there a way to mask a field with asterisks after a user fills it out (e.g. social security number, account number). For example, we now use DocuSign, an electronic signature service, where we can create fields that mask the data after it is entered. That way the PDF doesn't have the confidential data displated on it--only asterisks. We are not looking to collect passwords or user names, just SSN, account numbers, driver licenses, etc.
2. I read on the forum that the SSL option allows me to collect and transmit the data securely, but what about once it is stored on your servers--how do I remove it permanently? If I delete the submission from my JotForm account, is it removed permanently? In other words once I delete the submission it is no longer stored by JotForm anywhere?
Our goal is to migrate certain forms to JotForm as it integrates with our CRM very well. But we need to be sure we are protecting the confidential data.
Thank you, and I am really enjoying your product so far!
1. We do not have such field type in the form. The current version of input mask is solely for giving hint to the form user how to input a value on the field. I believe what you were looking for is a kind of encryption mechanism that can be applied on the field input.
2. When you delete the submissions, the data/info that was prevously stored in the data server will be permanently erased/deleted also. JotForm does not have a backup storage to allow restoring of deleted data.
You have not shared to us the CRM you used, perhaps we can request direct integration to also.
Please contact us again anytime for any other question you may have.
For #1 I think Docusign widget will work as well.
