I want to delete a date field and add a text field for the date because I don't want to restrict the responses to a particular date. I added the new fields.
When I tried to delete the old ones, I got a warning that I would lose the associated data. Does that mean that I would lose data that is in forms that have already been submitted? If so, can I just "hide" the form so that it is not seen? We can't afford to lose our historical data, but I really don't want to use that field.
If this is the case, it seems as if the only solution would be to clone the form and create a new form so that there is no historical data. That would not be a good solution. Is there another alternative for my problem?

Yes, if you delete a field from your form, and if the field has an existing submissions, all the data for that particular field will be deleted from our servers.
Cloning the form would be the good solution for this requirements. However, since you've mentioned that you do not want to do it, I think hiding the field(s) from the form would make it. Let us know the URL of the form and the field you want to hide, we'll then give you the correct CSS codes.
