How do link to a .pdf file in one of my forms?

Asked by MEGSSS on January 14, 2014 at 12:11 AM

My .pdf file doesn't have a URL. Can I upload it to JotForm somehow, and then put the link in the thank you? It's several pages, and I tried posting it to postimage.org, and found that it separated my pages...there has to be a better way to do this.

    Thanks!

There is a widget for that. Kindly take a look at http://widgets.jotform.com/widget/pdf_embedder. This tool should allow you to embed a PDF right on your Form.

Do let us know if you need further assistance. Thank you.

    Hello MEGSSS,

If I understand your requirement correctly, you want to upload your PDF file and then add the file URL in your thank you page. Is that correct?

There is no direct way to upload and store your PDF file. But there is a way to upload your pdf file and use the file URL in your thank you message. The idea is to create a form with just upload field and upload your pdf file by doing a live submission. You can then grab the pdf URL by going to your submission view page.

Example: I created this form to upload the pdf document: https://secure.jotform.co/form/40124025988858?

Here is the URL of the uploaded PDF: https://www.jotform.com/uploads/ashwin_d/40124025988858/255487279121115604/NewPDFDocument.pdf

Once you have the file URL, you can use that as a download link in your thank you message/page to allow your user to download.

Alternative way is to upload the file in your dropbox account and use the fiel URL in your thank you page.

    Hope this helps.

Do get back to us if you have any question.

    Thank you!

So I looked into each of these solutions:

    1) The pdf embedder widget: How does this help? I want people to be able to download a file, but I don't have a URL for it, so I don't think I can use this widget. If I had a .pdf, I would just create a link from the form itself.

    2) uploading the file to an individual form: I got an error saying my file was too big

    3) I do have a drop box account so I am looking into this, and what kind of sharing problems, if any, I will have with this. The file is supposed to be available to anyone who fills out this form, not just people I invite. I will have to test this.

    Thanks,

    Debbie

    Hi Debbie,

    2) uploading the file to an individual form: I got an error saying my file was too big

This probably because the upload field's Max file size is less than the size of the the file you were trying to upload.

You may refer to this guide Changing-the-Upload-Size-Limit about this.

    3) I do have a drop box account so I am looking into this, and what kind of sharing problems, if any, I will have with this.

The security measure of your file sharing will be on the Dropbox side. I found this help support document from Dropbox, you may refer to it also.

As long as the URL link of the PDF file you uploaded in Dropbox is accessible in the form, anyone who can access the form should be able to access the PDF file also.

Hope this help. Inform us if you need further assistance.

    Thanks.
