    Changing the submit button's target

    Asked by Abbott1 on June 27, 2011 at 04:15 PM

    I plan to use the forms within an iframe on my page, but would like my page to be directed to thank you page once the form in submitted, not just the iframe.

    Is there an easy way to change the target of the submit button to _top or _parent? Or any other way that could accomplish something similar?

    Hello,

    You can use Custom URL to redirect users to your own Thank You page.

    To redirect users to a Thank You page after form submission,
    follow these steps on form editor:

    1. Click on "Setup and Embed" tab on the form builder toolbar
    2. Click on "Thank You" button on toolbar
    3. Select "Custom URL" and click "Next"
    4. Enter URL of the success page on your site.

    Let us know if you have further questions.

    Regards,
    Mliz

    Hey Mliz thanks for the help, but I was looking to change the submit buttons target property so that the thank you page would display in the parent window and not within the iframe. I ended up just using some frame busting code on my Thank You page.

    Hello! I'm having this same problem--my client needs to track visitors to the form page and to the thank you page.

    This means I need to have a custom thank you page for each, and because we're delivering the form in a lightbox, the thank you page needs to appear in the same popup window.

    Any suggestions? I've been looking through the forum, and haven't found anything yet, sorry if I've missed it. Thanks much!

    @PrivateOcean

    Can you please share to us the URL of the website where the form was used? We can offer more suggestions if we have this informations.

    Thanks.

    Thanks for your quick response--unfortunately, my most recent example is on an internal development site that I shouldn't post here. I'll use other examples, and hopefully that will help.

    An example of the form (but using the jotform hosted form and thank you message) can be seen if you click on the link in the blue box on the sidebar of this page: http://www.privateocean.com/introduction

    What I will be doing is moving the form to a page with an iframe: http://www.privateocean.com/ask/theo-cio?format=simple

    and the thank you to a page on their site: http://www.privateocean.com/ask/intro-ceo-thanks?format=simple

    I'd like both of them to open in a pop up from within a popup (see the "more" links for Richard or Theo here: http://www.privateocean.com/our-team/leadership), but I can't get the Thanks page to open in the same popup/lightbox (the thanks page opens in a new window).

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

    Does this example demonstrate what you want to accomplish?

    Thanks, but no, I'd like the thank you window to open in the same window as the form. Is that possible? Thanks much!

    It is possible to set the Custom Thank You Page.

    And then load your Website Thank You Page within an iFrame on that Custom Thank You Page.

    Will this work for you? Thank you.

    Thanks, but that's not my question--my question is whether or not I can control the frame the thank you page opens in.

    Currently I have the form in a popup/lightbox, and I'd like the custom thank you page (not the thank you text hosted on jotform) to open in the same window.

    Any idea if this is possible?

    Thanks much!

    @PrivateOcean

    Sorry to say this but I think we got a little confused by your use of terms such as popup, lightbox, and window.

    Currently I have the form in a popup/lightbox, and I'd like the custom thank you page (not the thank you text hosted on jotform) to open in the same window.

    Do you mean you have the form embedded in a lightbox (not a popup), and that you'd like to have your custom (external) thank you page open in the same lightbox?

    If this is exactly what you want, then I regret to say that it is not possible with JotForm.

    My apologies, I mixed up the two because we tried both. Either one would work for us (though we prefer the lightbox).

    Is this behavior possible in a *popup* window? Same window houses the custom form (page on our domain) and the custom thank you page (page on our domain)? -- That is, when hitting "Submit" the user gets the thank you page in the same window.

    I'd like for us to start over with what you have in mind:

    First is that are you looking for a lightbox or a pop-up window (although you already stated you prefer the ligthbox)? Next, what you're saying is that you would like for the custom-thank you page content to appear inside the lightbox, correct?

    If the answer to my question is yes, unfortunately, as stated by Neil, it's not possible.  You can however try modifying the HTML code of your form's Thank-You message option so that the content will be formatted to your liking

    Thanks, so my next question is, would this be possible in a popup (rather than a lightbox)?

    The client needs a custom thank you page that's served off our domain (for tracking purposes we cannot use a jotform url, and I do not have enough access to change the DNS record at this time).

    Yes, it is possible.  On a pop-up window you can either have the thank you page appear on the pop-up window itself (child) or on the main page where the pop-up is from (parent).

    NeilVicente's example above is an example of a thank you page appearing on the parent browser.  By default, the thank you page should appear on the same window where the form was.

    If you need further assistance on this matter, please let us know.

    Thanks.

    Thanks much--I'd love to know how to get the custom thank you to show up in the same windo, rather than in the parent browser.

    From what you're saying, that should be the default, but I was experiencing the thank you opening in the parent browser window instead.

    Can you provide us the link to the page where the form is?  There might be a configuration or a code in your page that makes the page call the parent, instead on the pop-up.  Just how NeilVicente did on his example.

    Here my sample page with the pop-up form.

    Thanks for the example, this looks like what I'd like!

    Unfortunately, I don't have a page to show (the dev server isn't supposed to be public...) but I'll see if I can't either figure it out from your example or put something up so you can review my code.

    Thanks again for all the responses!

    Hello PrivateOcean,

    The code that I have is actually a bit pretty straight forward.

    First thing I did was set my form's thank you page to my prefered URL.  Next is I created a child.html file and embedded my form there.  Lastly, I added this code to my parent.html file:

    <script type="text/javascript">
    // Popup window code
    function newPopup(url) {
        popupWindow = window.open(
            url,'popUpWindow','height=500,width=800,left=10,top=10,resizable=yes,
           scrollbars=yes,toolbar=yes,menubar=no,location=no,directories=no,
           status=yes')

    }
    </script>
    <a target="_blank" href="JavaScript:newPopup('child.html');">Open a popup window</a>

    This code above will then call the child.html file when the link is clicked.  Feel free to adjust the height and width of the window that will appear by modifying the values on the above code.

    If you have other questions, concerns, or if you need further assistance, please let us know.

    Thanks.

    Thanks much, I think the reason we were having issues with the popup were related to the third party hosting the site. We're addressing that now, and hopefully will have everything working soon. Thanks for all your help!
