Is there a workaround for keyboard users to activate a section collapse?

The section collapse and toggled content widgets do not seem to be selectable using the keyboard. Turning on the accessibility checker marks the "toggled content" as potentially making the form less accessible, but not section collapse. Is there a workaround for keyboard users to active a section collapse?

    Hi again,

    Happy to help!

Unfortunately, JotForm does not have the option of using keyboard shortcuts at this time, even in regards to accessible forms. The widget is likely incompatible with most accessibility software, so it diverts to the section collapse.

I have opened a feature request on your behalf in regards to this, however. I cannot guarantee that this will be implemented; however, if/when our team has an update for you, we will communicate it to you here.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "diverts to the section collapse." The section collapse option is also not selectable using the keyboard. I was just pointing out that the Accessibility Checker fails to flag this as a problem the way it does for the toggled content widget. Both should be described as "inaccessible".

We have understood the issue you are having with Section Collapse field. It is currently not selectable using the keyboard.

We have already created a feature request ticket and escalated it to our backend team. Though we cannot provide any ETA on this, but we will get back to you as soon as we have any update from them.

It's been over a year and the ability to select the collapse feature is still not keyboard accessible, nor is it identified as a non accessible element by the Accessibility Checker. I have had multiple clients decline to use JotForm for their projects this past year because of this lack of accessibility.

I'm not a professional programmer, but it really seems like this should be as simple as adding tabindex="0" to the section collapse trigger. I'm perplexed why this is taking so long.

    Hello jlainvolve,

Thank you for reaching out to Jotform Support. Unfortunately, we don't have an update yet. Feature requests are usually developed based on the number of requests for such feature, not based on how long the request has been open. Also, we are not entirely sure if this will be implemented as it will depend on popularity among the users. Anyhow, the ticket is still open and still assigned to our developer.

We will inform you here once this feature becomes available.

Where can we vote on which features you should prioritize? Do you have an ideascale account or similar where JotForm users can weigh in?

That said, this isn't really asking for a new feature, it's asking you to fix existing features:

    1) The accessibility checker is broken because it fails to identify one of the core/basic form elements as non accessible. Keyboard focus has been a pretty basic part of accessibility standards for a long time.

    2) The collapse trigger should have had a tabindex value from the start. That's just good coding.

    Hi jlainvolve,

Actually, you can not vote for the feature requests. Developers prioritized those feature requests which are requested by a large number of users. Jotform does not have an Ideascale account. Let me send a follow-up message to our backend team for an update.

We will inform you here once we have an update on this.

Thank you for following up. Accessibility is incredibly important. There are an increasing number of ADA related lawsuits in the US related to website access here in the US, so it's something we would like to feel more confident about when using JotForm.

JotForm really should consider using a crowdsource tool ... Uservoice is another option ... to allow better feature request tracking. This will give you a much better sense of which features people want the most. It should make your job much easier as well, because it will allow you to provide updates and issue responses in one place instead of responding to separate conversation threads.
