    Problem with conditions

Asked by bankruptcynews on July 03, 2011 at 06:53 PM

I have a multiple-choice test using Jotform. I want the question have a condition such that if the wrong answer is selected, some text appears explaining that the selection made is incorrect.

So, on question no. 13, if the student selects "True" or "False" the error message "INCORRECT" should occur. If the selection is "Depends on the jurisdiction" the error message does not appear, or a separate message appears saying "CORRECT."

Before any selection is made at all, neither the CORRECT nor INCORRECT message should be showing.

How do I set up the conditions to accomplish this?

I inspected your form and found out that you have already created conditions to show/hide messages based on the answer selected in one of the questions. Upon previewing though, the "Incorrect" message is showing even if no answer have been selected yet.

I checked your conditions to see what is wrong and this is what I found to be missing:

The stuff in red boxes are what's missing in your condition. An empty field is also not equal to the correct answer, that is why the "Incorrect" message shows even if an answer has not been chosen yet. Thus, you need to put the "If field is filled" rule. Click on Add New Rule to add more rules to your conditions.

Choose If All of these conditions are matched so that these conditions need to be met before the "Incorrect" message is displayed on the form.

On the other hand, the conditions for the "Correct" message are configured correctly. There is no need to have the rule "If field is filled" because the selected option can never be equal to the correct answer if there is no option is selected in the first place.

Let me know if you need more information on this topic. Feel free to ask around the forum if you have other queries or concerns. Thank you!
