There was mention of the old version of HTML to get google and some other email providers to display the background image in an auto responder. Could you sent that to us please, we can't seem to find it.
To show backround images in your autoresponder email all you need to do is to add the next HTML code line to the <table> tag of the HTML Source of your autoresponder:
style="background-image: url(PASTE HERE THE URL OF YOUR BACKGROUND IMAGE);"
Then click on Update and it will show the background image.
