Grid Listing widget cannot be configured in Visual Report Builder

Asked by amya on July 14, 2011 at 10:15 AM

I embed a report on my website which includes a grid listing of submissions.

Recently the settings for the grid (displayed columns, column size, sort) reset themselves, and I do not seem to be able to edit or create a new report now. Editing & Saving does not seem to work.

    Hi,

Submission report sorting always defaults to a chronological order. That is, from the most recent to the oldest, just like in your actual submissions page

Sorting data in grid/table reports is read-only, meaning it will not be saved to the report, that is why it always 'resets' itself.

Unfortunately, the reports wizard does not have an option to save column sorting.

As for editing and saving new reports, I am sorry but I was not able to replicate this problem. As a matter of fact, I created a new report for your form 'Sun City Regatta Registration 2011'. Please do check it out.

It could be that the problem is with your browser. If you're still having troubles creating new reports, try resetting your browser or use another browser such as Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome. Advise us whether this solution works or not.

Please let us know if you need further assistance with regards to this topic. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

    Regards,
    Neil

My saving problem was to do with the Grid.

I was sure that I used to save the choice of and order of columns in a grid on a report. Is that still possible, or does it now reset itself like the sort order?

    Gerry,

What I am sure of is that it is possible to choose which fields to display on the form, but not the order of the fields (columns). You can choose whether to hide or show fields by checking or unchecking them in the Reports Wizard.

You can find this screen by going to My Forms > Click on the specific form > Click Reports > Choose the existing report or Add New Report

Neil, That only works when creating a grid. When you create a report, and add a grid to it you dont get that option.

Oops sorry Gerry. I did not realize that the Report that you were talking about was in fact the one created by the Visual Report Builder.

As it turns out, there is no option to choose which columns to display in the grid listing added to a Visual Report. It is pretty odd seeing that there is an option for that in a stand-alone Grid Report.

I will submit a ticket to notify our developers of the absence of this option. We will let you know once this gets completed.

In the meantime, you can try embedding a stand-alone grid listing and a visual chart in a single html page in your server or even in a blank form. That way, you will have control over which columns to display in the grid listing and still be able to display a chart (such as a pie chart) together with that grid.

It may not be pretty but if you are interested in this workaround, please let me know. Thanks!

    Thanks Neil.

While the developers are in there, it would be really good to be able to control column width, sort order etc. too ;-)
