I am trying to add a staff use only check list, but would prefer that it is not seen by those using the form to submit data.

Yes, but only by using a custom CSS codes. However, using custom CSS codes would also make it hidden to your end. You will not see it as well to the Jotform editor.

If you want a field to be hidden to the live view but make it visible to your end, then I would advise using our Checkbox field instead. You should be able to hide the checkbox field using the HIDE function from the field properties:

The checkbox is then hidden to the public live view but visible to your end as the form owner.
