Combine text from multiple fields into one

Asked by cheekyface on April 10, 2014 at 09:23 PM

How do I "Combine text from multiple fields into one"? This is supposed to be possible using the conditional logic but it seems a little more involved than just selecting field A and B to merge into field C? I tried to use this option below but it doesn't allow me to select the fields I want to use.

It seems to only offer one field at the top and another a few other options in the output section. Is there a step by step instruction for using this? Insert Text Or Mathematical Calculation into field Combine text from multiple fields into one or use complex calculations based on conditions This is the form I'm working on: http://www.jotform.co/form/31254281294856

...I've given this up but i still think you should have a step by step to show how this is done.  I couldn't get it to work (unless it only works on submission but I didn't go that far).  I set it up to output the value of two separate Text Areas into one standard text box (the output options would not allow text areas for some reason so I had to use the text box instead).

When I tried this the logic seemd to save OK but it didn't collect the text into the field I wanted.  Instead it just displayed a "0" as the value before I submitted.

Please review the following Example Form Merging 2 Text Box Fields on to one field
(Text box fields are the fields you need to use).

    Calculation Steps:

Make sure to open the Advanced Settings and use the Insert field as text instead of numeric:

Do let us know if you need further assistance performing the merge. If needed please elaborate which are the fields you want to merge on your form. Thank you.

    Ok thanks!

That's great!  So there's no need to use the conditional logic button.  I didn't try it just by using the calculation field.   Looks nice and easy.

Can the information be separated into lines?
So that value 1 and value 2 are entered on separate lines?

    Hello cheekyface,

Unfortunately, it is not possible. "Form Calculation" widget is a textbox not a textarea where new line can be displayed. Even if you try to use the "Insert Text Or Mathematical Calculation into field" conditions, output cannot be sent to a "Textbox" field.

To achieve your requirement, you will have to download your form's full source code and add custom code.

    Thank you!

Can we please make a feature request to add to the ability for combining multiple fields into one field, by including an option to separate lines (in a text area if possible).
It could be a button with the new line or enter symbol ().

This would be preferable in place of the preview widget in my case, where I only need to verify contact data before submission.  So for users, it would be a matter of checking 2 or 3 fields (to make sure they have entered the correct email and phone etc) then click to the "next" page where the submit button will be.
