    Exporting data to excel

Asked by shaunloh on August 15, 2011 at 11:25 AM

Hi , when i convert my data into an excel file, the excel file that is generated contains all string data. Meaning to say that all my yes/no questions or questions where the participants choose 5 choices are all represented as words.

I will need my data in numerical (string) data when it is converted to excel. is there any way to do this on jotform?

    Hi shaunloh,

    Thank you for using JotForm.

What do you mean by numerical data in excel? In order for us to look deeper into this, we would need additional details on what you are referring to. If you can do so, that would be great.

    Your response is highly appreciated.

Hi Albert thank you for your prompt reply

I actually attached a screen shot to illustrate what i mean.

For example in my survey i have questions where the participants answer yes or no to some questions.

Some othe questions have them choose from answers like not likely/somewhat likely/very likely etc

When i export these results to excel, it gets recorded as string data, meaning words like "yes/no" or "not likely"

Data in string (text) form cannot be transferred to data analysis software. Is there any way i can programme the form such that "yes" in the survey becomes recorded as "1" in excel and "no" in the survey becomes "2" in excel when i click on the convert to excel button???

    Hi shaunloh,

There is no option within JotForm but there is a workaround that MS Excel offers. Just use the following formula:

    =IF(A1="yes",1,IF(A1="no",2,""))

to convert yes and no repsonses to 1 and 2 respectively.

We hope this workaround will work to your advantage. Please let us know if we can be of further assistance.

    Thank you for using JotForm!
