are there any limitations for charting data?

Asked by eschwartz on August 17, 2011 at 11:35 PM

Is it possible to create a chart for the following form http://www.jotform.com/form/2800711407 that keeps track of the number of leads collected by school?  I currently have the leads collected field as a text box with numeric validation and I have also tried to use a numbr field without success.  From the looks of the items available in the chart data drop down, it appears that the only chartable data is that which appears in a drop down, radio button or text box field.  Are these the only ways to chart data?  thanks!

    Hi Eric,

Charts are inded limited only to fields which has preset options such as a drop down, radio button or check box. Text boxes and text areas cannot be charted in any way, because the range of the possible answers to these fields is unlimited. Surely, it wouldn't make sense to chart a Full Name field, right?

If it's not too much to ask though, may we know which field in your form you want to make a chart of? Who knows, one of our support team members may find a workaround for your intended purpose.

Thanks Neil!  That's what I figured.  The fields I am looking to chart are "Total Leads Collected" and "Total Hot leads".  Both appear conditionally when certain activities are selected.  Since these fields contain numeric validation, I'm hopeful that a work around may be possible.  Many Thanks! Eric

    Hi,

Just following up on this.  I don't suppose you've been able to identify a workaround, have you?

    Thanks,

    Eric

    Hi Eric,

I apologize for the delay in responding, but how does using a slider field instead of the number field sound to you?

This field can be found under the Survey Tools section:

And according to my tests, it is totally chart-able.

Like what I said in my previous response, fields with an unlimited range of possible answers are not allowed to create a chart of. The slider field has a maximum value set so it is possible to be "charted".
