Not sure what to enter as notification url for Paypal IPN settings

Asked by eoghaokelly on July 29, 2014 at 10:39 PM

Hey so not sure what to enter as notification url, going by the above I used https://www.jotform.com/ipns/paypal.php but they sent me this response:

    Hello eoghan o kelly,

Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN) messages. Messages sent to the following URL(s) are not being received:

    https://www.jotform.com/ipns/paypal.php

If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information.

Once you or your service provider fix this problem, you or your service provider can resend the failed messages from the IPN History page. If this problem continues, PayPal may disable the IPN feature for your account.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.

    Thanks,

    PayPal

    Hello eoghaokelly,

I would suggest you to change the IPN notification URL to : http://www.jotform.net/ipns/paypal.php

That should solve your problem. Please take a look at the following guide on how to change the IPN notification URL:  http://www.jotform.com/help/276-How-to-Enable-IPN-for-Paypal

    Hope this helps.

Do get back to us if the issue persists.

    Thank you!

I received the same email notification.  I just now reset the PayPal Selling Tools > IPN to use the .net address as suggested above.  I originally followed the Jotform FAQ

    http://form.jotform.us/form/41949167774167

Immediately I received the same email from PayPal:

"Please check your server that handles PayPal Instant Payment Notification (IPN) messages. Messages sent to the following URL(s) are not being received:

    http://www.jotform.net/ipns/paypal.php

If you do not recognize this URL, you may be using a service provider that is using IPN on your behalf. Please contact your service provider with the above information.

Once you or your service provider fix this problem, you or your service provider can resend the failed messages from the IPN History page. If this problem continues, PayPal may disable the IPN feature for your account.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this issue.

    Thanks,  PayPal"

    Hi,

Please double check also instruction #5 on the user guide

    http://www.jotform.com/help/276-How-to-Enable-IPN-for-Paypal

it states that URL only matters IF using IPN outside JotForm.

Otherwise you should try using the IPN Relay URL in the paypal tool property box.

    Thanks.

    Hi,

Can you please confirm if you are using IPN beside JotForm?

You will now when you have this similar screen

notice the Notification URL -- it is not indicated as JotForm.

If you are not using IPN beside JotForm then the URL should be https://www.jotform.com/ipns/paypal.php

    Thanks.

    Hello pdxconnect,

That is strange. The following IPN URL should have worked :  https://www.jotform.com/ipns/paypal.php

Let me report it to our back end team and they will take a look. We will get back to you as soon as we have any update from our back end team.

    Thank you!

Payments made today do not show up in PayPal as PAID. They show up on Google Spreadsheet and they showed up on JotForm as incomplete submissions.  I selected Complete Submissions, but still appears unpaid in Paypal

Not sure why my response was moved to a new thread. I was responding to the 8/18/2014 (@1112PM) post from Jotform support indicating that a "fix" was applied to resolve the IPN issues.

I understand completing the submission does not complete the payment in PayPal.  I needed to complete the payment to have it show up on the Jotform exported spreadsheet and to report back to my group.

I have confirmed the form's PayPal Wizard IPN setting as:

    IPN Relay URL
URL to relay Paypal's Instant Payment Notifications to
    http://www.jotform.net/ipns/paypal.php

I have also confirmed in PayPal the IPN settings are set:

    Notification URL http://www.jotform.net/ipns/paypal.php
    Message delivery Enabled

Does Jotform Support know what the "fix" was and if I should make any modifications to my form?

    Thank you!

    @pdxconnect

    Our apologies.

First, you don't have to set the same IPN Relay on your Paypal Field settings. I would suggest removing it as it would be redundant. As long as your IPN is enable on your Paypal account settings, that's enough for the entire process to work.

You're definitely right! Completing the submission on the Incomplete Payment list does not process the Paypal payment. What it does, it simply mark the submission as complete and move it on your submissions data.

May we know if you have resend the failed messages in your IPN History? This will allow Jotform to process the incomplete payment this time with valid payments and automatically mark the pending submissions as completed. Check this Paypal FAQ's page for more useful information and to learn how to resend failed messages within your Paypal account. http://www.jotform.com/help/272-Paypal-Incomplete-Payments-FAQ

    Hope this information helps!

The Notification URL is the URL to tell you that a purchace has been made or transaction processed.

This can goto a php file with PHPMAILER where you can make the content of the email tell you that a  purchase has been made

    Thanks
