For the form section I have attached, is it possible to have "Gift Subscription 1" auto select if any of the next 3 subscriptions are clicked. Right now customers can bypass the initial subscription and choose the next 3. If not can you think of an alternative way of displaying this?

What you can do is place the source code on your website and then manually add the checked="checked" attribute inside the checkbox field.
If you are embedding the form in your web page, I would recommend that you use iframe, and add these parameters at the URL: ?chooseSubscription=1005
So your iframe code would be something like this:
<iframe allowtransparency="true" src="//form.jotform.com/form/xxxxxxxxxxx?chooseSubscription=1005" frameborder="0" style="width:100%; height:2762px; border:none;" scrolling="no">
You can learn more about prepopulating your form via URL parameters on this link: http://www.jotform.com/help/71-Prepopulating-the-fields-to-your-JotForm-via-URL-parameters
