What is the difference between adding SMTP manually and verifying email?
This is a re-post of a comment on How to Add a Custom Sender Address to an Email Alert

Hi,
Thank you for contacting us.
You must be referring to this option on the user guide
-How-to-Add-a-Custom-Sender-Address-to-an-Email-Alert
The "Setup SMTP" and "Verify Address" option.
I suggest you check also the other user guide for SMTP email setup
You can see what SMTP was about
If you want to use your own SMTP email, you will have to provide your SMTP email server details to setup.
While the "Verify Address" option will authenticate your custom email address thru verification method.
Hope this help. Inform us if you need further assistance.
Thanks.

Hi,
No, you can use only one option from this if you only want to use custom sender email in your form Email Notifier.
It is either "Setup SMTP" or "Verify Address" method.
Thanks.

I still do not understand how it work if I do the verification method without providing SMTP servers.

Hi,
You can only choose one method just like what my colleague Jonathan said.
Setup SMTP
You can use this method by providing the SMTP settings of your own email server. It is because that you will use this server to send emails. It is like using an external server to send notifications or autoresponders to the users.
Verify Email Address
You can just put an email address here, then we will be sending you a verification code. In this method, we will use Jotform servers to send email to the users. Although we will be putting the custom email address as the sender.
Hope this helps. Thank you!

I understand that I can only choose one method but your colleague did not answer my question telling me the technical difference.
Now I understood because you told me. So you recommend me to use Jotform servers?
Will there be any restrictions?

Hello -I tried to use the Verification method of setting up a custom email response, but it did not work.
Regarding the limit of 2 emails sent per hour. Is that 2 emails sent through Jotform from a custom recipient per hour, or simply no more than 2 of any emails per hour are sent using the free account?
If that is the case, and if more than 2 persons submit a form within the 2 hours, will the extra emails wait in a queue until the time limit is up, or will the person filling out the form not be able to submit it?
Thanks.
