Some submissions not going to DropBox

    I have a strange and intermittant issue.  I have forms for my class, where students upload PDF files using a JotForm form.  These upload should be sent, immediately, to my DropBox account.

    The problem is, some (and only some) of the submissions are not syncing to DropBox.  I can't seem find any similarities in the submissions that are not sync'd to DropBox - it appears to be random.

    After you recent DoS attack, I re-embedded all of my forms, and tested them ... and everything seemed to work.

    However, I don't seem to be getting all of the submissions sent to DropBox ... and the frustrating part is that it's only "some" of the submissions.  It's intermittant ... I hate intermittant problems, because they are harder to track down.

    Can you guys offer any advice/help?

    I posted the link to the forms page in the box below.  There are 6 forms - they are all identical, except to where the submissions go.

    Any advice would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks for the help!

    Hi belayman,

    Thank you for your message. Indeed, solving intermittent issues is more difficult to do than solving a "stable" bug.

    Have you tried re-integrating your Dropbox account into your JotForm form? If you haven't done it yet, please try it and observe if the intermittent problem goes away for good. Please update us with your findings.

    Hey ... thanks for the response.  In an effort to track this down, I did a little research, and discoverd that the issue wasn't as "intermittant" or random as I first thought.

    Background:  I had approximately 50 submissions over the past few days (from 28 Sept to 30 Sept).  Of those 50, only 7 had the issue I described above ... so, 7 of the 50 did not sync properly with DropBox.

    Furthermore, all of those 7 "errored" submissions were grouped together.  The first submission that didn't sync properly occurred at:

    2011-09-29 21:51:31

    and the last one was submitted at:

    2011-09-29 23:36:57

    All submissions between those time periods did not sync with DropBox properly.

    Funny thing is, there was a submission on Sept 29th at 21:15:00, and it synced with DropBox perfectly.  Similarly, there was another submission at 23:56:12 that sync'd properly.  So, it seems at though something happened between 9:51pm and 11:36 pm on Sept 29th ... and whatever happened, prevented the submissions from syncing to Dropbox.

    I've checked DropBox, and I can't find any record of an outage on Sept 29th.  Did you guys have any disturbance or interruptions on the night of Sept 29th?

    So, just reiterate ... every submission before 9:51 pm on Sept 29th sync'd properly with Dropbox, and every submisssion after 11:36pm on Sept 29th sync'd properly.  So, it appears to be an isolated incident, but I'd still like to figure out what went wrong.

    Also ... to answer your question - yes, I reset all my DropBox integrations when I reset my forms (on Sept 28th, after I realized that my secure forms no longer worked).

    Do you have any ideas or opinions?  Even though it was only 7 out of 50 forms that didn't sync properly, I will be getting over 100 submission in about 2 weeks, and I'd really like those to work properly.

    Hi Matt,

    It's interesting to hear your observations about this issue. Us here at JotForm would like to extend our apologies for any inconvenience caused. I am not so sure but I think this might be one of those rare incidents when servers, either that of Dropbox's or ours, get some hiccups.

    Like what you said, it is a little hard to track down. Rest assured though, if ever this happens again, we will do our best to find out exactly the cause of this issue and fix it. Contact us immediately as soon as anything like this re-occurs.

    Hey JotForm Support ... You said to contact you if something like this ever happened again - well, I'm contacting you.  :-)

    This past Thursday (2011-10-27), I received approximately 45 submissions via a website form, all of which are supposed to sync to Dropbox.  Two of those submissions - the first occurring at 22:41:22, and the second at 22:45:17 - did not sync with DropBox at all.  Nothing showed up in DropBox - no folders created, no "screenshot" PDF file ... nothing.  (However, both of those submissions did, and still do, show up in JotForm.)

    Submissions before these two, and after these two, sync'd just fine ... but, this 4-minute span between 10:41 and 10:45 pm on Thursday, nothing sync'd properly.

    There were also 2 or 3 other sync errors, where the folder was created in DropBox, and the PDF "screenshot" file was put into the folder.  Those seemed to happen at random times - at 5pm and midnight, for example.  To me, these aren't as important, because there's a link to the submitted file - but these are still annoying and I'd like to figure out the cause, and fix it.

    So, do you guys do server maintenance or something on Thursday nights?  All of my omitted/erred submissions have occurred during the same basic times on Thursday nights.
