    Letters get cut off when a PDF file is downloaded causing words to be splitted up

    Asked by jakehenneman on January 20, 2015 at 03:49 PM

    We are getting words cut off on our forms. As far as I know, this began happening today.

    Thanks,

    Can you please tell us if this is a PDF of submission or an email that got the letters cut off and what is the submission ID and the jotform that we could go and check this out on?

    Yes, this is a PDF of a form submission. I go to my Submissions, then Get PDF.

    I see what you mean Jake.

    Could you please try editing the form and adding this HTML tag into the text right before the word that you would like to move to the next line:

    <wbr>

    This is element that says that you would like to have a break in line there, if it is needed to be made - which should set the text to break where you like it instead of in the middle of the word.

    If that works then we could add the CSS code to the jotform to break the words on spaces only and not to break the letters - which if above works, should work as well.

    This is the CSS that I meant:

    input, textarea {
        word-break: normal;
        word-wrap: break-word;
    }

    You can add the second code to your jotform following these steps: Inject Custom CSS Codes

    Do let us know how it goes.

    That didn't seem to work either. I don't know how this suddenly just changed. We haven't seen this problem until very recently.

    I cloned the form and could replicate the same situation. I removed the text-area fields and added them again with the same result:

    Removed the image file and the submit button but it still breaks words.
    I forwarded this situation to our developers so they can analyse better this situation.

    If you need further assistance please let us know as we're here to help.

    Thanks for looking into this! I look forward to your response as right now I have to output the PDF then go in and hard return to get it to look right.
