I am unable to open a spreadsheet in Excel which is very frustrating. This happened last year and you directed me to use Zoho but that is time consuming and annoying.
Could you let me know what may be causing the issue.

I am sorry to hear that you are having these issues Janina, but could you please tell us the filesize of the excel file when you download it?
I have just downloaded all submissions for that jotform and I am able to open the Excel and CSV files without any issues.
Could you please try downloading the Excel and CSV files and check their file size.
Also, if you can not open them with Excel, could you please try opening them with Google Spreadsheet instead?
Knowing more about it, by following the steps above will help us find and resolve the issue for you.

File size is 69.6.
I opened in google then uploaded to excel successfully from there. Why would that be?
Very odd that I cant do directly.

I downloaded the file and I was able to open it just fine as well. The size of the file was 69.7KB also. If I am not mistaken you said that the excel file opened just fine in Google Spreadsheet? It is possible that there might be a glitch that is causing the excel file to generate that error when opened in Open Office. Which version of Open Office are you using? Please verify that the excel file opened just fine in Google Spreadsheet. Looking forward to your response.

Totally fine in google spreadsheet
I have tried 2 different computers and it wont open in Excel. Its office 2008.
I have tried another jotform spreadsheet and it opens so it is a bug in that particular form I think.

I'm sorry for the trouble caused to you.
I did try to download your form's submission in excel and I am able to replicate the issue you are having. Please check the screenshot below:
There seems to be some unreadable content (like special character) in your submission data which is causing this issue. I did try to find our the problematic submission record but couldn't do that.
I am reporting it to our back end team. We will get back to you as soon as we have any update form them. For now, I would suggest you to open the submission excel in google spreadsheet or integrate your form with google spreadsheet.

We created a bug report about this and we will look into it as soon as possible. Please use the CSV option for now. CSV export also opens in MS Excel just like Excel export.

I have just been able to identify and fix the issue as it was pretty much obscure. We have tested it and there shouldn't be any problem downloading submissions now.
