    I would like Configurable List Widget values to be separated into columns in Excel Sheet

    Asked by martinbond on March 04, 2015 at 09:32 AM

    I have created a huge form - http://form.jotform.me/form/50601680503445? with a lot of configurable lists in this format. I would really appreciate if this was investigated further. See PDF response format below for example:

    I feel, having tested your site to generate similar outcomes, this is the best and only way to consolidate and gather a range of information which provides a user friendly interface, for that reason I feel it would be hugely beneficial if a solution can be provided for this. Please advise if one can be devised.

    To add to this development, in excel / CSV the response is collected within one column for each separate column on this form, which is displayed visually below.

    it would be great if this was separated to keep each individual response paired with the corresponding question / answer text. as it would make for easier reporting i.e. each configurable list appears in excel as it does on the form with the configurable list title sitting above each question as seen below

    I see what you mean:

    This can be manually achieved by using the Excel feature "Convert Text to Columns ":

    Click the Data tab, and then click Text to Columns

    You can see these guides on how to achieve this:

    https://support.office.com/en-in/article/Split-text-into-different-cells-30b14928-5550-41f5-97ca-7a3e9c363ed7

    I will still forward a feature request so our developers can consider a future implementation of this feature. If they decide accordingly they will contact you via this thread.

     Let us know if we can assist you further.

    Thank you for reverting me to this tutorial, that knowledge was out of my basic scope, that will keep me going for now.

    My problem is now that since the static text (from related other thread - http://www.jotform.com/answers/507997-Help-adding-different-static-text-for-each-row-on-the-Configurable-List-Widget ) is not pulling into the results there is nothing to relate to.

    My plan now would be to create a template that contains each question then drop the related fields in accordingly. Is there any way to format my jotform data base for this question in such a manner so that each time a new respondent completes the questionnaire it automatically goes into this format. It would save me filtering each's respondents response everytime. I'm a very time poor man. ha

    Please advise you bundle of knowledge.

    Regards,

    Martin.

    Hi,

    Static text and headers by default are excluded from your submission data.  It is possible to include them in your data:

    http://www.jotform.com/help/305-How-to-show-headers-or-text-for-contracts-terms-agreements-in-the-PDF-format-of-a-submission

    However I do not believe this will work with excel reports.

    I also do not believe it is possible to change the format of our submission layout.  Since the Configurable List and Matrix widgets both treat the whole widget as one entry, it will be placed into your submission data as such.  The workaround above is your best bet until our developers have a chance to see whether or not they can separate out the data.

    Hi,

    I cannot get the static text to show even if I check show headers as seen below,

    I'm using specific coding provided by your team which is:

    tr:nth-child(2) > td.col1 > span:before {

    content: "Option 1";

    }

    tr:nth-child(3) > td.col1 > span:before {

    content: "Option 2";

    }

    tr:nth-child(4) > td.col1 > span:before {

    content: "Option 3";

    }

    tr:nth-child(5) > td.col1 > span:before {

    content: " Option 4";

    }

    tr:nth-child(6) > td.col1 > span:before {

    content: " Option 5";

    }

    Apparently this code is only for visual purposes only and cannot pull through to PDF or excel submissions.

    Just to clarify, I cannot manipulate my JotForm data base to add columns to suit my needs & the form database is set on the layout of the form?

    I watched the tutorial provided by your colleague which indicates I can separate the fields manually, please clarify.

    Please also escalate this query to your dev team if possible as using jotform hinges on this functionality as I cannot replicate the same result using the basic tools.

    I assume you took a screenshot of my existing configurable list & did not create a replica of my form without using the provided code? Please also clarify.

    Thanks for your promt response, greatly appreciated.

    Regards,

    Martin.

    Correct, the submission data is dumped in the order it is received from the form.

    I watched the tutorial provided by your colleague which indicates I can separate the fields manually, please clarify.

    The data in my colleagues example was being separated in Excel, not in JotForm.

    I did clone your form to test it, however making test submissions takes quite a long time due to the length and being unable to autofill the form.  All the data entered does indeed show up in the submission and the notification:

    The data was also included in the PDF and excel report as well.

    Yes all the data that the user enters appears however the static text does not appear.

    My plan now would be to create an excel template that contains each static text question from the questionnaire. I'll download the excel response, then c&P the response fields into the appropriate fields in the template. From your knowledge do you think the aforementioned method would work and is there an easy solution using formula that will let me drop all the responses into specific fields in one go.

    The data is dumped to the spreadsheet in the same order every time, so filling a template with your data should be possible.  As far as importing it to your template, to be honest, I am not aware of a formula that would be able to to this easily.

    Ok, if you or your team can think of anything please do come back to me as I've hinged all my questionnaires on this widget and developed it to a level that I'm happy with. If anything of the developments discussed above can be achieved that would be great.

    Thanks,

    I apologize I wasn't able to come up with a better solution.  The Matrix widgets we have function fairly differently than normal fields and due to the data entered within being collected as one field, it is difficult to separate.  We will let you know as soon as our developers have any further information.
