I am trying to create a form with a table that contains three columns date, description and total. I need up to 10 rows and the bottom row needs to calculate the total of all of the rows.
Any ideas for how to accomplish this?

I think you can do that using text boxes, then all you need to do is to add our calculation widget.
Please follow this guide in order to know how to do it:

You might need to learn how to align the text boxes by checking this guide:

That sounds like it will work. My next challenge is to align my date, description and total fields horizontally...for some reason the fields are moving all over the place, i want to lock them down. any ideas?

On the field's property menu you can use the "Move to a new line", "Move to above line", Move Up / Move down options to position the fields where you want:
