How do I ensure that users enter no less than a certain number of characters into a text boxAsked by onetouch05 on November 03, 2011 at 10:03 PM
1.i having issue to make sure user key in the id no. not less and not more than 12digit.
this my form http://www.jotform.com/form/13051744751
see under NRIC no.
2. my user using ie6 and the block image come out, see the image
string length characters minimum limit
1. Unfortunately as of the moment there is no option to set minimum field entry, there is already an existing feature request for this option. As a workaround though you can download and use the form's source code to embed and then add the line min="12" in the number field's codes:
<input type="text" class="form-textbox validate[required, Numeric]" id="input_5" name="q5_nricNo" size="20" min="12" maxlength="12" />
To get full form source code, open your form on the Form Builder:
1. Open "Setup & Embed" tab on toolbar,
2. Click on "Embed Form"
3. Click on "Source"
4. Copy the full source code displayed
To set the limit on the field entry just open the form click on the field choose the Properties tab and in the toolbar you should see the icon "Max Size".
2. The block image displayed on IE6 is supposed to be part of the error message for the empty required fields. I've tested it on my end and was able to replicate the said issue. For this reason I have forwarded this to our developers for further checking.
After cloning the form and seeing that the "Max Size" of the "NRIC No." input was set to "12", I knew that you had already had one part of the problem solved. However, ensuring that the user entered all twelve (12) digits was the tricky part. Unfortunately, there's currently no test for a string's length in our Conditions tool because that would have simplified things.
However, I was able to come up with a workaround. Enter less than 12 digits in the "NRIC No." box in this clone of the form and note what happens. If you're okay with this solution, here's how to apply the same functionality to your form:
1. Copy the form's source (as per my colleague's instructions above) and embed it into a web page of your own
2. In the form's source, edit the same input to which mliz referred, like this
(If you view the source of the page within which the clone of your form is embedded, you'll see the same bits of code.)
Incidentally, are you aware that the hint example in the "NRIC No." box contains 13 digits instead of 12?
Is there any expected delivery date for making min part of the interface? Even if just in the properties box and not the top bar? It seems a simple and useful peice of functionality.
Are there any plans to add a regex property for fields?
I am sorry to inform you, but we cannot provide any ETA for when the minimum input field feature will be implemented. However, please note that our developers are working hard on improving the services, but there are a lot of things to do.
We do not have plans on implementation of regular expression field validation feature, but you can create a separate feature request thread about that. Then, we will be able to add it in our nice to do list.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation with us.
Any luck on this feature?
Have you checked our "Input Mask" feature available in text boxes. I believe that should work for you. Input mask works with following syntax "@ symbol to mask letters inputs, # for numbers and * for both." If you set it "#" 12 times in input max, it will expect user to input 12 digit number in any textbox.
Hope this helps.
Do get back to us if you have any questions.
I'd like to chime in here and mention that having a minimum character count would be useful for me. I need to ensure my contractors submit at least a certain amount of work (as in, I ask them to write 500 words, so I would set the character minimum to 300 characters or so. This feature is available on the Google forms). I suspect the input mask feature will not be an adequate substitute for this.
Is there a place where we could possibly vote on requested features? Thank you.
I created a new thread for your inquiry, so that we can assist you properly.
