Why won't my form allow visitors to save and why won't the fields propogate

Asked by Rich Papalia on April 17, 2015 at 08:51 AM

I have created a form that is supposed to allow users to save their work for continuation later.  And, I’d like those two pieces of information to prepopulate the second form but I can’t figure out your pre-population instructions.

First form:   Faithful Servants Step 1    (collects their name and email address)
    http://form.jotformpro.com/form/50975197932973

    Second form:  Faithful Servants
    http://form.jotform.co/form/50906680114855

The first form will redirect you to the second form AND send the link to the person’s email address, the link doesn’t actually redirect the visitor to their partially finished form.   It opens a new form.

When I tested my partially completed form I clicked the “Click to submit Completed Form” button.   Was there supposed to be some other option to submit a partially completed form?

Your “How to Save Forms to Continue Later” instructions said “Page Break” was required but didn’t specify how to implement it.

This form was converted from Adobe Forms Central.   Could something from the conversion be blocking my ability to make things work properly?

    Page URL:
    http://form.jotformpro.com/form/50975197932973

and allow won't new form JotForm name other option

    Hi,

I've fixed it for you. In the first form, you'll now see the following URL in the Autoresponder settings:

    http://form.jotform.co/form/50906680114855?session={yourEmail4}&yourFull4={yourFull3}&yourEmail8={yourEmail4}

In the second form, you'll now see Page Breaks. This field is under the "Survey Tools" tab:

In the second form, you'll notice that I've removed the default data. That settings are not correct. I've also made that as read-only so users can't edit it when they are redirected to the form:

When I tested my partially completed form I clicked the “Click to submit Completed Form” button. Was there supposed to be some other option to submit a partially completed form?

-The Page break must be present in the form. Using Session URL method, the page break is very important. The user will have to click "Next" button before the data will get saved. The "Saving" icon is visible at the bottom-right part of the form.

-The data will be present in the form for as long as you have the session URL and the form is not submitted. Note that when the form is submitted, the data in the session URL will disappear.

Your “How to Save Forms to Continue Later” instructions said “Page Break” was required but didn’t specify how to implement it.

-The page break is under the "Survey Tools" in the form builder.

This form was converted from Adobe Forms Central.  Could something from the conversion be blocking my ability to make things work properly?

-No, it's just your settings and the way you implement it in the form. I've fixed it for you, everything should work properly now.

Please do not hesitate to get back to us if you need further assistance.

    Thanks

Just to add, the session URL method is recommended if you want users to continue at a later date using another device and browser.

If you simply want users to save data on their personal computer and continue using the same browser later, you can use our Autofill feature: http://www.jotform.com/help/227-How-to-Enable-Auto-Fill-Feature. The data on this method is saved on the local browser storage so it is required to continue using the same computer and browser.

    Thanks

I appreciate your comment about the session URL vs/local browser storage method.   Since I'm not sure where the visitor may be while they are working on this form (work/home/the road/having their secretary finish things up) I think the session method is the best option.

Testing isn't going so well though.   Questions:

    1.  When I submit my name/email address on the first form, it is directed to a "welcome" screen.  Visitors then have to click a link on the welcome screen to proceed onto the real form.  I wish it just went right to the form.

    2.  I was hoping the name & email address they keyed on the first form would populate on the second form.  Unfortunately, the fields are blank.   Not only are the fields blank but you can't type in the fields either.   Since they are both required fields, I can't continue on with the testing.

    3.   It looks like the visitor gets an email as soon as they fill out the first form and then they get a second email with a link that will allows them to continue working on a form they've saved.    I think that would confuse my visitors.  Do they need the first email.   I think it's being generated by the first form's notifications.

Also, the link the user gets when they move from the first form to the second (after clicking on the link in the welcome screen) seems to break in the middle:

I typed my name as "Kathy Test 4" and the resulting URL broke after "Kathy" and started again at "4"

    1. Yes, you can also redirect users to the second form with the session URL and populated fields, name and email. But this method requires you to use Custom URL method, for example:

    2. My apologies. It should be possible, but I think I missed something in the form settings. Will clone your form so to make a working demo. I'll let you know here later.

    3. Yes, that is generated by the first form. It is also needed as a backup, just in case the link in the thank you message page will disappear or the link will disappear in the user's browsing history.

As for the name, your settings are not correct. Again, will check this and get back to you.

    Thanks

So, I just finished it and here are the forms:

    First form:

    http://www.jotformpro.com/form/51094778430964

You will be automatically redirected to the second form, filled with session URL and parameters to automatically populate the Name and Email fields by the details submitted in the first form.

    Here's my own test:

    http://form.jotformpro.com/form/51095038388966?session=welvin@jotform.com&yourFull4=Welvin%20Cudas&yourEmail8=welvin@jotform.com

As you could see it, it's working with spacing in the name.

I can do the same on your form, just give me a go signal. :)

    Thanks

Your tests seem to work beautifully.    I never got an email with the link for continuing my form but maybe that's not supposed to work in the cloned-demo.

If you could apply your changes to our form then we can continue testing.

Thanks you for your wicked-fast assistance.  :)

I just checked my colleague and unfortunately he is not currently online, but I have sent him a notification, you'll hear from him as soon as he gets online.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I am working on this to your form now. Please do not edit the forms nor go to our form builder until I say so, just to avoid some problems that might occur when the account is open simultaneously.

    Thanks

    Hi,

All set, the form is now configured to work the same as mine. I have also fixed the autoresponder settings, especially the recipient settings which is not set for the email field:

Please test the form(s) and let me know if you have any further questions.

    Thanks
