enhancement request: thank you message at top

Asked by heirloom on November 08, 2011 at 10:27 PM

I know this has been raised several times before...

...you submit the form and the (custom) thank you message is at the top of the page but not visible.

The workaround of redirecting to another web page works but is very clumsy (and IMO seriously detracts from what Jotform otherwise achieves with aplomb). It's a much nicer user-experience to have the "thank you" inline rather than having to load a new web page.

Any way we can bump the priority on this? A public vote on prioritising a set of enhancements would be great (allow everyone to vote on their top-3).

    Best, Gary.

    Hi Gary,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and suggestions with us. It won't go unnooticed and I have included this in our to do list. It is through the ideas of our members that has enabled JotForm to be more intuitive and feature-rich than its previous versions.

Other JotForm users can voice out their support for your suggestion through this forum thread. Rest assured that our developers are made aware of this and should be able to provide alternatives to the custom Thank You page (i.e. a pop up, a light box, or an inline text like you suggested)

Please do not hesitate to share your ideas with us. Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

There may be a relatively simple workaround to get that (custom) thankyou message better positioned when you submit the form.

Can you provide an example (URL) of where you see this phenomena and I will have a quick check to see if anything can be done about it?

    fxr, here's a mock-up...

Thanks for taking the time to create that mockup. Wonderfully useful.

The nearest I could get to what your looking for is to attach a javascript event to the clicking of the submit button.

    I added this code:

    <script type="text/javascript">$('cid_2').observe( 'click', function(){location.target="_blank" href='#top'});</script>

to the bottom of the form in a Free Text (HTML) field.

it just scrolls the form back up to the top when the Submit button is pressed. You can view my mock-up of your mock-up here

Its still not quite perfect (visually, id rather get the top of your host webpage to show), but the solution may be of some help in the meantime while the developers consider and (hopefully) implement your feature request.

Sounds like you've had a bit of fun with this one and I certainly appreciate the effort :)

Seems to work pretty well in IE, but not Chrome...

Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL http://submit.jotform.com/submit.php from frame with URL http://pamppi.info/jotform-testing/thankyou/. Domains, protocols and ports must match.

Thats not actually my code generating that error message.

Your original mock-up page also generates it.

It doesnt actually affect the functionality of the workaround in Chrome. I still get my scroll back to the top of the form, just before the form gets submitted, and so, the Thankyou message is at least viewable (immediately) to the form's user.

I think with abit of clever formatting of the thankyou message, maybe with an image thrown in, you could create a solid  experience for the user.

    Thanks fxr.

I've seen this question pop up a few times on the forums and this is the first time I can find someone who has posted a solution (albeit a partial one). Don't know if there's a way to make it more visible, but appreciate you providing the option. Right now, I'm going to revert to redirecting to another page.

    Best, Gary.

We will look into this problem. But you need to leave us a paga so that our developers can see the problem. Can you make another page (not linked from your site) and show us the problem. Thanks.

    The form is at http://www.jotform.com/form/13095932141

...but this won't show the issue by itself (in fact it behaves as expected).

    In fxr's mock-up at http://pamppi.info/jotform-testing/thankyou/

...he's added some Javascript at the tail end to render the page from the top. This seems to work really well under IE9 but not under Chrome (for me anyway).

If you remove fxr's Javascript you should see the issue clearly.

PS. It would be much appreciated if someone could remove the email notifcation from fxr's mock-up. I'm getting all the notifications and I don't want to eat into my allocation.

    Best, Gary.

Gary, I removed the email notification on my cloned form of your original one after a few tests last night. Sorry for overlooking that. I have removed the number of submissions for that mock up form from your account.

FAO: The developers, I have cloned Garys mockup here -> http://pamppi.info/jotform-testing/thankyou/broken.html

Just submit the form, it will become quickly obvious what the problem is.

Thanks fxr. Can you double check the email notification is gone because I just tried your mockup and I still received an email.

OK, gone. I created a new mockup for the developers to look at, and forgot to remove the email notification (again).

    Its in there hands now.
