Email Validator widget: the option to reduce the amount of keys to enter

Asked by Carer on July 17, 2015 at 05:07 PM

The email validation widget produces a huge string for the user to copy and paste. Can this be edited to produce a 4 or 5 digit number as this long string does not work when filling out the form on PC and receiving the email on smart phone.  This is surprisingly common.

Need a short code or other option please.

email pc other option does not work

    Hi,

Unfortunately, the email validation codes need to be unique.  If 4 or 5 digit numbers were used, we would run our of unique code rather quickly.  I checked the verification and it did indeed work from a PC.

It also worked from Android on my phone.  I was able to copy and paste the code from both.

If you have any further questions regarding this or if things still aren't working properly on your end, let us know and we will be happy to have another look.

Hi, thanks for the reply. Sorry, I was not clear this is what I meant to say...  People accessin this form are in work pcs and pcs where their email is not. The users would fill in the form on the remote PC and email would usually come though to their smart phone. It's obviously not possible to copy the code from a smart phone to the form in the PC/laptop.

I mentioned a shorter code so that they could memorize the email code on their phone and type it in the PC.

Min guess in you covered this possible eventuality when building the widget so I am presuming its an unfortunate situ without a work around??

I this is the case, would it be possible on look at the widget allowing the Ron to be sent, but have not delayed (24hr expiry) until a link is clicked in an email. That way, it would solve the issue of where the form is being filled in and where the users emails are arriving.

    Your thoughts please?

    thanks.

If this is the case, would it be possible to look at editing/creating a widget to allow the form to be sent to the server, but have it delayed (24hr expiry) until a link is clicked in an email (related message to user when form submitted). That way, it would solve the issue of where the form is being filled in and where the users emails are arriving.

I have now submitted this thread to our developers a feature request, the option to change the number of keys in the validator. If there are updates, you should know it in this thread.

For now, I think a copy/paste will work. Because when a user is filling up the form, he/she is required to key in the verification code in order to submit it. If a user filled the form using a smartphone, he/she can just switch window then copy, back to the form and paste it. If they are filling up the form using a laptop, they can open their email using it then copy/paste the codes. If it's done remotely, they can also access their email remotely.

Lastly, you might want to check our Submission Verifier App: http://apps.jotform.com/app/submission_verifier.

    Thanks

    HI Guys,

I implemented the submission verifier as per your good recommendations.

Unfortunately, it does not appear to work if there are mail conditions set on the form.

    Condition example:

If location is Victoria, send notification to xxxxx@xxxxx.com

What happens is that the rule will actually send the email to the specified address, regardless of the app emailing a link asking for validation.

Yes, unfortunately, the conditional email will trump anything else including widgets.  If the condition is met, the email will be sent regardless of what else is setup in the form.

    :S

hmm so email verification not viable if email notification conditions are met.

may I hire you to adjust the app?

Our developers make changes on a priority basis.  If something has a large amount of requests it is given a higher priority and will likely be implemented.  If there are not very many requests, it is likely that it will not.  There is no way to fast track requests at this time.
