After a form is submitted, the customer sends payment by regular mail. Upon receipt of the payment, I would like to update the submitted form with payment received and send email to submitter that acts a receipt.
I included a hidden drop-down field with values: payment due and payment received. The default value is payment due upon submission by customer. I setup a payment received auto-responder. I then setup a conditional email responder such that email is sent when the hidden drop-down value equals payment received.
I receive the submission from customer in the submissions table. Then I go into the submitted form and change the value of the drop-down to payment received. I'm expecting the payment received auto-responder email to be sent to the email in the email field on the form. But it is not being sent. Why not?
I'm using the JotForm directly (not embedded in a web page).

That is because auto-responder email alerts cannot be triggered when the submissions are edited. Please be noted that auto-responder can only be sent when the form is submitted for the first time.
You may like to check the following thread where one of my colleague provided an excellent workaround to achieve your requirement: http://www.jotform.com/answers/138953-How-to-send-autoresponder-when-a-form-submission-is-edited
Hope this helps.
