I'm looking for a widget to resize and crop customers photos for print

Asked by Carl  on September 26, 2015 at 09:44 AM

    Hi

I hope I can explain this well.
I'm looking for a widget for my Joomla website so that customers, instead of just uploading their photo to me, can actually upload, see, crop and size and prepare themselves so the end result is that I get the exact photo they see in the widget so I can print as fine art, canvas, etc.

Its hard to explain to people that their square picture can't be made into a rectangle without squeezing, stretching, resizing or cropping. It can be very frustrating for both parties and very unproductive for me.
I need to be efficient to make money with my "museum quality" Giclée prints as I sell them at a low profit margin.

    Is this possible?

At the same time it would be nice to have Contact Form, interactive resizer/cropper/uploader tool all on the same page.

Would be super cool if you can help with this or point me in the right direction.

I'm self taught over the last 4 years or so and I don't understand a lot of the technical stuff like .php and such.
I do all of my own website work but use Joomla.

My website is www.joe-lynn.com and basically I have just an uploader on 1 page and a link to my contact form.
I'd like to make this more user friendly and also have more self serve for customers.

The widget would need to change to different aspect ratios so like 8"x 12", 11"x 14" and 20"x 30" and so on. Also would need to convert to 300dpi and flip from portrait to landscape and even to square.

Any suggestions you have would be much appreciated.

    Have a great day all,

    Carl

    Hello,

I have some good news and some bad. The good news is hat this feature is already being worked on by our team. Unfortunately, I can not really give a time frame when this feature will be release. I will report this feature again and link it to the other request.

Hopefully we will get some response on the progress. In the mean time, the only suggestion I could give is to make it real clear the properties of the image that is required. I would also create a link to another page where he can verify and crop the image properly before uploading it into the form.

Some nice page I found where:

    http://www.resize.it/crop-a-photo.html

    http://www.fotor.com/

    http://www.picresize.com/

    Hope this helps

    That's very encouraging news!
Thanks for the speedy reply and thanks for the links and the idea to use them. I was aware of these sorts of sites but didn't think to link to them.
I look forward to hearing about progress on this as well!

That's amazing news Jonathan! Thank you!

If this person would like to contact me would be great. Not sure how this is normally done.
I have more ideas to make this very handy.

Would also be very cool if the picture could be on a layer behind the actual sized box in front so you could drag it around and place it where you want it and grab a corner to resize it so the person sees exactly as if I were showing them in photoshop but they could have total control.

I'd be happy to chat on the phone or email with the developer and make sure this is very functional for a small business like mine. I'm new and self taught and wasn't born with a silver spoon but am more than willing to help all I could with a donation or payment if need be, but if I do that it needs to be everything I need.

    Much appreciated!

Please let me know if this is possible. Thanks,

    Carl

I actually tried the sites mentioned above and they are not at all of any use to me as you can't crop to size properly and to have the function in inches is a must.

So like you create a window at say 20"x 30" and you drag your photo in. If its a bit too small you can drag the corners of the image to meet the box. If the image is bigger you can drag corners in to meet or drag out a bit to crop with the box and even drag the picture around so as to crop with the box itself. Everything in the box is what I will receive as a printable image.

Even a button to view the pic in full size so people can actually see that an image from facebook really won't make a 20"x 30" print and they can see why as the image quality will be blown completely.

You would first create the box as size desired in inches. Then drag and drop pic to upload.
It appears in the box and you drag the corners of the pic, while keeping same aspect ratio till it fits or all of the unwanted clutter on the sides is outside of the box. Maybe a warning if its blown to large and quality is lost.
Can also then flip the box to portrait or landscape if desired and still drage the pic around and resize.

So totally interactive and functional until the end desired result is reached. Then hit "Upload" and the file will go to a folder I choose on my server.

I hope this makes sense. I look forward to more discussion about this.
If anything is unclear or someone can add to this please feel free to mention.

    Cheers,
    Carl
