Can I Insert a DateTime Field Which Leaves out the Day?

I only want the month/year in mm/yy format.

It's possible to hide the day in DateTime fields via CSS but I think it may be better to substitute the Configurable List widget and use the method recommended by my colleague mert in this thread.
