Has anyone experienced spam donations before? We've received a large number since around Christmas. I added a captcha to the form but I'm wondering if anyone has experience with resolving this kind of situation.
Likely we'll need to investigate with our bank and/or payment gateway?

It is possible for spammers to send spam submissions as well most specially for embedded form on websites. Unfortunately if a real person did the spam, using the Captcha alone will be limited.
Here are ways to make it difficult for human spammers to do this kind of work :)
Use different Captchas available as the form widgets:
Moreover, the form can be set to accept unique submissions only.
How to Set Unique Submissions on a Form
By setting the unique submission by IP address, the same person on the same network will be prevented from submitting again the form multiple times.
You can trace the IP of the spam submission as well in the form submission page.

It will not hurt to check on them as well to see if any malicious intrusion were able to reached them as well.
Hope this work. Please let us know how we can be of further help.
