I'm using an autoresponder on my starter email to send a link to my main form to users.

Some of the users didn't get the email, supposedly because the "from" address was noreply@jotform.com
So I changed the "from" address to smcbeca@gmail.com
However, the emails still come from noreply@jotmail.com Does it take a while for the change to go into effect?

You should have gotten a code to verify this account in order to use it as a custom sender, this is explained here: http://www.jotform.com/help/238-How-to-Add-a-Custom-Sender-Address-to-an-Email-Alert
If this method does not work, then follow this workaround:

to address, yet the emails that are sent continue to show "no
reply@jotmail.com. "

I test submitted your jotform http://www.jotformpro.com/form/53636558274970 and this was the autoresponder email I got.
The custom sender email seems to be working as intended. I did not find a Notifier setup on the form though, so I might be missing a test.
Can you please provide us more details. Tell us the URL of the form also.
Thanks.
