How does one make use of Calculation Value property in a matrix?

While I see some earlier questions saying that one cannot run calculations on the basis of a matrix entry, I see that you have a property field with instructions for completing Calculation Values. See screenshot below of how I entered them. However, when I used the Form Calculation Wizard and bring in the fields, I don't get any results.

Calculations can be performed in the Matrix only when using the text-box, radio button, or checkbox as input type in the matrix. It cannot be used to calculate when using the dropdown input type. A possible workaround would be to use the check-box input type instead. Here's a demo where you can see a calculation performed when using the checkbox: https://form.jotform.com/60908042227956.
