Copy one field's value into another field condition is not working when text field is used

I am trying to use the function to copy one field's value into another field.  It works fine as long as the field being copied is a numeric field.  If it is a text field, it is not working.  No value shows up in the second field.  I have done it as you suggested with no results in the download file.

Please tell me how to make this work.

    Thanks,

    Marilyn

Looks like your condition has changed and it seems like you've figured this out already. Can you please confirm?

I don't know what I did that fixed it, but I guess it's working now!  I'll follow up if it stops working again.

    Thanks,

It is not working again.  The only thing I had differently when you tested it was that I had one of my "Hide/Show" conditions disabled temporarily.  But I would not think that should affect this functionality.  I now have all conditions enabled so that you can see what is happening.  Please let me know what you think.

    Thanks,

    Hi Marily,

Can you please tell us which conditions were not working specifically on your form https://www.jotform.us/form/61054701244142

I checked and I found there were many conditions setup on the form.

If you can tell us condition number is not working as it was suppose to, we will focus on that and do the necessary corrections.

I also notice that there were multiple repeating Show/Hide conditions that can be enhance by simplifying them using the method described on this user guide:

    Show-or-Hide-multiple-fields-at-once-using-form-collapse-tool

We will wait for your response.

None of the Update/Calculate Field conditions are working.  That is the problem.  If I disable the other conditions (not update/calculate), then the Update/Calculate field conditions work.  If the other conditions are enabled, the Update/Calculate Field conditions do not work.

    Thanks,

    Marilyn

I'm checking this now and we'll let you know later the solution and the cause of the problem. I think there is some sort of a conflict here between conditions.

Looking at this, it seems that the HIDE conditions are causing this to happen in the form. The form, by default, will clear the values in the hidden field when submitted. Some of the fields in the Update /Calculate Field Conditions are set to hide in the form when certain fields are filled.

I think the easiest way to fix this would be to set the Clear Hidden Field Values to Don't Clear. It's on the Advance tab of Preferences window:

Copy one fields value into another field condition is not working when text field is used Image 1 Screenshot 20

But the downside of this option is that filled fields won't clear when they are hidden, especially if you will change your selections in the previous fields.

As for the conditions, just to let you know that the best way to avoid a conflict between Show/Hide Conditions is to set the fields to SHOW when the option is selected, not HIDE them when a field is EMPTY or NOT EQUALS TO. When you add SHOW condition, the fields are automatically hidden in the form until the condition is met.

Let us know if you need any further assistance.

By the way, you can also try doing it this way:

Exclude the fields from being hidden by your conditions, set them to HIDE instead in the field properties:

See if this works for you.

Changing to "Don't Clear" on the preferences did it.  I will go with the easiest way for now.  I may try the other suggestions at a later point.

    Thanks!

Great! Considering that you have a number of conditions, updating them takes time. Again, please do not hesitate to get back to us if you need further assistance.
